Post your pre-game, in-game, and post-game comments hereREGULAR SEASON Game Number 40 l THE Mighty Duck Man 84's Version Number 39Sunday, January 4, 2009 ... Game Time 5:00 p.m. (in Anaheim) (8:00 p.m. EST) (IMG: http://cdn.nhl.com/coyotes/images/logos/large.png) vs. (IMG: http://cdn.nhl.com/ducks/images/logos/large.png) PHOENIX COYOTES [19-15-5, 43PTS]VS. ANAHEIM DUCKS [19-15-5, 43PTS]>>>>>>NHL.com Game Preview<<<<<<Team Matchup's• DucksQUOTE Anaheim (19-15-5) has lost three straight at Honda Center for the second time this season, going 0-2-1. The Ducks haven't lost four in a row at home since a six-game skid (0-4-2) in November 2005. Anaheim is 10-8-3 at home on the season, losing its first contest there 4-2 to Phoenix on Oct. 12. These teams are tied for second place in the Pacific with 43 points. Honda Center isn't the only place the Ducks have struggled of late, losing five of their last six (1-3-2) overall. Anaheim fell 5-4 at home in a shootout to Philadelphia on Friday night. The Niedermayer brothers helped lead Anaheim to a strong effort on offense. It was a milestone night for Anaheim captain Scott Niedermayer, who was credited with his 500th regular-season assist. It came on his brother Rob Niedermayer's ninth goal of the season. Andrew Ebbett scored his first NHL goal on his 26th birthday, and Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf each had a goal and an assist for the Ducks. Ebbett was playing in his ninth NHL game and sixth since getting called up from the minors because of an injury to Teemu Selanne. • Last Meeting ... Ocotber 12, 2008 ... 4-2 LCoyotesQUOTE Poor play on the road has been holding the Phoenix Coyotes back. A trip to Honda Center, though, could give them a spark. The Coyotes look to hand the Anaheim Ducks their fourth straight home loss and take sole possession of second place in the Pacific Division when the teams continue their season series Sunday night. Though it is 6-10-3 on the road, Phoenix (19-15-5) is making a run at its first playoff appearance in seven years. The Coyotes won their last road game, 2-1 against Los Angeles on Dec. 26, and appear to have a good chance to win consecutive games away from Jobing.com Arena for the first time this season. Phoenix is also coming off one of its best offensive games of the season, beating the New York Islanders 5-4 on Friday night. Shane Doan and Olli Jokinen both scored, Zbynek Michalek had a goal and an assist, and Viktor Tikhonov and Joakim Lindstrom each added unassisted goals for the Coyotes. Phoenix has lost in regulation twice in its last 12 games, going 7-2-3. The Coyotes are expected to get No. 1 goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov back for this game after he missed two straight contests with a sore back. Bryzgalov is 4-1-1 with a 2.06 goals-against average in six games versus Anaheim. Lowe Blow Fund Raiser! |

Fellow AllDucks member lvsprt had a great idea in the "Lowe Sounds Off" thread. She suggested a fund raiser, much like the Beat The Avalanche fund raiser we had years ago, to raise money to be donated to the favorite charity of whatever Ducks player scores the game-winning goal in the first home game against the Oilers. The point of the fund raiser is two-fold. First, it will prove to Kevin Lowe that Anaheim is NOT a "pathetic hockey market" and second, it will raise a lot of money for a worthy cause. Like last time you will be able to mail in donations and we will also set-up a PayPal link to donate online. In addition to standard donations I have a few other ideas for fund raisers to help us raise even more money. Last time we ended up donating over $1,500 to Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) on behalf of Sergei Fedorov so let's try to beat that mark. We have a LOT more time this time around so I think we can do it. Again, this is a great opportunity for us Ducks fans to raise money for a worthy cause and force Kevin Lowe to eat crow at the same time. As was the case with the Beat The Avalanche Fund all of your donations will be tax deductible and you will be provided with a receipt if you are to send in a self-adressed, stamped envelope along with your donation. So start coming up with ideas for the name of this fund raiser and then start saving money to donate! Let's raise as much as possible and prove once again that the Anaheim Ducks have the greatest, most generous fans in the entire NHL! Send donations for the Lowe Blow Fundraiser to: Ducks Charity Fund c/o Chris & Dawn Wassel PO Box 424 Yucca Valley, CA 92286-0424 Checks are to be made out to Chris Wassel, who will handle the accounting for the checks/cash/money order part of the fundraiser. Paypal is still being set up. Please include your name, address and email and Chris will confirm the receipt and amount of your donation. If you need a tax receipt, please include a self addressed stamped envelope.

RECALLED: Drew Miller |

Ducks are recallling Drew Miller, in light of Perry's suspension. The press release:
The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled left wing Drew Miller from the Iowa Chops, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Miller, 24 (2/17/74), scored 16-11=27 points with a +3 rating and six penalty minutes (PIM) in 34 games with the Chops this season. As of today, Miller leads Iowa in goals, ranks tied for first in power play goals (6) and second in points. Among active AHL leaders, he is tied for fifth in goals.
Selected in the sixth round (186th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Miller appeared in 26 games with the Ducks last season, scoring 2-3=5 points with six PIM. He made his regular season NHL debut on Oct. 6, 2007 at Pittsburgh and scored his first career NHL goal in a 3-1 Anaheim victory on Oct. 17 vs. Nashville. Miller spent the rest of 2007-08 with Anaheim’s AHL affiliate in Portland, collecting 16-20=36 points with 12 PIM in 31 games. He also scored 1-7=8 points with 12 PIM in 16 Calder Cup Playoff games, helping the Pirates to an AHL Eastern Conference Finals appearance.
A native of Dover, New Jersey, Miller made his professional hockey debut in 2006-07 with Portland, finishing tied for first on the Pirates in rookie scoring and tied for third in overall scoring (16-20=36). He appeared in three games for Anaheim during the 2007 playoffs, including Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup Final vs. Ottawa.
I know a certain little girl who is thrilled!

Corey Perry suspended 4 games |

From Adam Brady's BlogQUOTE The Ducks can find solace in the fact they didn't lose the game in regulation, since they handed the Flyers plenty of opportunities in the third period with a rash of penalties. That included a four-minute high sticking call on Corey Perry, which in actuality was an elbow to the head of Claude Giroux. And that hit is coming with more repercussions. The NHL will be announcing later today that Perry is being suspended four games for it. (We'll have more on that later today.)

Post your pre-game, in-game, and post-game comments hereREGULAR SEASON Game Number 39 l THE Mighty Duck Man 84's Version Number 38Friday, January 2, 2009 ... Game Time 7:00 p.m. (in Anaheim) (10:00 p.m. EST) (IMG: http://cdn.nhl.com/flyers/images/logos/large.png) vs. (IMG: http://cdn.nhl.com/ducks/images/logos/large.png) PHILADELPHIA FLYERS [20-10-7, 47PTS]VS. ANAHEIM DUCKS [19-15-4, 42PTS]>>>>>>NHL.com Game Preview<<<<<<Team Matchup's• DucksQUOTE Anaheim was blanked for the second time season - and first at home since Dec. 2, 2007 - on Wednesday after falling 2-0 to Columbus to open a four-game homestand. The team concluded December with a 5-7-1 record, having dropped four of its last five games and two in a row at the Honda Center. It was also a sluggish night for the Ducks in man-advantage situations as they faltered on all five chances Wednesday after going 6-for-20 during a recently-completed five-game road trip. Opponents have converted 23.7 percent (14-for-59) of their power-play opportunities against the Flyers over the last 12 contests. Against Columbus, Jean-Sebastien Giguere snapped a personal four-game home winning streak. He's allowed 12 goals on 78 shots in winning two of his last three starts against Philadelphia. • Last Meeting ... February 2, 2008 ... 3-0 LFlyersQUOTE Losing one of their best players didn't keep the Philadelphia Flyers from a win their last time out. It remains to be seen if his absence will become an issue on the remainder of their longest road trip this season. Forward Simon Gagne is likely to miss the final three stops on the Flyers' six-game swing, which continues Friday night against the Anaheim Ducks. Philadelphia (20-10-7) snapped an 0-3-1 road slide with a 3-2 win at Vancouver on Tuesday. However, the Flyers endured another setback to injury. Already without forwards Scottie Upshall (right knee sprain) and Danny Briere (left groin strain), they lost Gagne just 15 seconds in after took a hard hit from Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa. While Upshall and Briere could return soon, Gagne may be sidelined for at least 10 days due to a strained shoulder, the Flyers' official Web site reported Wednesday. Philadelphia's trip ends on Tuesday in Washington. Gagne is currently second on the team with 18 goals and 40 points, but playing without him is nothing new to the Flyers. A concussion limited him to 25 games last season, when Philadelphia advanced to the Eastern Conference finals before falling to Pittsburgh in five games. One such player has been Jeff Carter, who had a goal and an assist on Tuesday. He leads the league with 27 goals, and his 43 points are 10 short of the personal best he set in 82 games last season. The Flyers are two points behind the Atlantic Division-leading New York Rangers, who are idle until Saturday. Philadelphia seeks back-to-back road wins for the first time since a season-high three-game run from Nov. 15-26, but is just 4-3-1 with two ties all-time in Anaheim (19-15-4) after winning 7-4 on Nov. 15, 2006 in its last visit there. The Flyers, however, have won four of their last five games against the Ducks, including 3-0 at home on Feb. 2 behind a hat trick from Mike Knuble. RECALLED: Mikkelson |

Got this in my email:
Huskins will be out 2-3 weeks with a broken bone in his right foot. An MRI taken after last night's game revealed the injury.
In response, Mikkelson has been called up. This is the release about Mikkelson:
ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled defenseman Brendan Mikkelson from the Iowa Chops, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Mikkelson, 21 (6/22/87), appeared in 21 games with Iowa this season, scoring 1-5=6 points with 10 penalty minutes (PIM). At the time of his recall, Mikkelson, ranked tied for third among team defensemen in scoring.
Selected in the second round (31st overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Mikkelson played his first professional season with Anaheim’s AHL affiliate in Portland last year, collecting 6-10=16 points in 66 regular season games. The 6-3, 210-pound blue-liner helped the Pirates to a 2008 AHL Eastern Conference Finals appearance, earning 2-6=8 points in 14 Calder Cup Playoff games.
A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Mikkelson has never appeared in an NHL game. He spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with Portland (2003-06) and Vancouver (2005-07) during his junior career. In 226 career WHL games, Mikkelson scored 16-54=70 points with 204 PIM.

Game Time 6:00 p.m. (in Anaheim) (9:00 p.m. EST) (IMG: http://cdn.nhl.com/bluejackets/images/logos/large.png) vs. (IMG: http://cdn.nhl.com/ducks/images/logos/large.png) COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS [16-16-4, 36PTS]VS. ANAHEIM DUCKS [19-14-4, 42PTS]>>>>>>NHL.com Game Preview<<<<<<Team Matchup's• DucksQUOTE The Ducks (19-14-4) have been blanked just once this season, 2-0 at league-leading San Jose on Dec. 11, and have won both matchups against the Blue Jackets, most recently 5-3 on the road Dec. 7. Columbus has shut out Anaheim twice in the all-time series, doing so in consecutive meetings from Feb. 19-March 24, 2003 at the Honda Center, where only six opponents have blanked the Ducks over the previous three seasons. Anaheim opens a four-game homestand following a 2-2-1 road trip, capped by a 4-3 victory at St. Louis on Sunday that snapped a three-game skid. Scott Niedermayer and Bobby Ryan contributed a goal and an assist apiece for the Ducks. Carlyle's club found success thanks in part to Ryan, who has emerged in the absence of right wing Teemu Selanne. Selanne, tied for the team lead with 14 goals and third with 27 points, is expected to miss up to six weeks with a thigh laceration. Ryan has also thrived on the power play, helping the Ducks convert two of four opportunities Sunday to improve to 6-for-20 over the last five games. Opponents, though, are just 3-for-26 with the man advantage against the Blue Jackets in their previous 11 contests. • Last Meeting ... December 7, 2008 ... 5-3 WBlue JacketsQUOTE Rookie Steve Mason is emerging as one of the NHL's top goaltenders, and his recent success has the Columbus Blue Jackets approaching history. The Blue Jackets seek to post three consecutive shutouts for the first time in the franchise's existence when they continue their season-high six-game road trip Wednesday night against the Anaheim Ducks. A third-round pick in 2006, Mason is 11-7-1 with an NHL-leading 1.77 goals-against average in 19 games since being recalled from Syracuse of the AHL on Nov. 4. Mason has stopped all 44 shots he's faced in leading Columbus (16-16-4) to back-to-back shutouts, 3-0 against visiting Philadelphia on Saturday and 2-0 at Los Angeles on Monday. The Blue Jackets, who ended an 0-6-1 slide on the road, had been blanked in their previous two contests. Mason has joined Fredrik Norrena (Dec. 2-5, 2006) and Ron Tugnutt (March 14-16, 2001) as Columbus' only goalies to post back-to-back shutouts. If Mason starts Wednesday, he'll make his first career appearance against an Anaheim offense that is averaging 2.9 goals over its last 10 games. Columbus is 0-2-1 in its last three visits to Anaheim. Mason has two shutouts on the road, where he is just 2-4-1 despite boasting a 1.57 GAA. Starting Goalies: (Probable) Anaheim: (IMG: http://cdn.nhl.com/photos/mugs/8462044.jpg) Jean-Sebastien Giguere (11-8-3) Columbus: (IMG: http://cdn.nhl.com/photos/mugs/8473461.jpg) Steve Mason (11-7-1) TV: Directv Channels: 660 FSOH, 661 FSCN; Center Ice 778, 779 l RADIO: 830AM l Internet Feed: [ NHL.com LISTEN LIVE] l Satellite Radio: XM - 209 (IMG: style_emoticons/default/goducks1ux5.gif) (IMG: style_emoticons/default/anaoa4.gif) (IMG: style_emoticons/default/goducks2iw4.gif) LET'S GO DUCKS(IMG: style_emoticons/default/goducks2iw4.gif) (IMG: style_emoticons/default/anaoa4.gif) (IMG: style_emoticons/default/goducks1ux5.gif)
