Look, Im sure Murray was thinking the same thing but probably got stubborn or something when it came to prices he was seeing. Maybe hes had discussions and a few other GMs have agreed to wait until post season. Maybe hes a boob and needs to be canned.

If it were me, I would have taken the Yzerman approach.

Me, too.

Except I would have done it last year.

Considering the knot he got his johnson in last summer with re-signing his significant RFA's, I think he just signed up for another go-round this summer. #anotherknotinmydick

201 pages in this thread and zero Cups.

I'm beginning to think the team has taken on the personality of the GM.

When it comes to crunch time, they both play not to lose.

Commie says so!!!!

He pulled some weight with his info, IMO.

And was very entertaining doing it.

Did you see Bryz on the TDL panel broadcast on the NHL Network?

Very good point.

Bringing back Carlyle set that in stone, methinks.

No.  I'll bet that was epic.

With the Ducks steadily moving in the wrong direction ever since our Stanley Cup win two seasons ago, it is obvious that changes need to be made. A quieter and gentler man has taken over as our GM, and by nature has not publicly taken the bull by the horns like his predecessor did and proclaim the direction in which the franchise will be going.

Has Bob Murray given us any indication or outlined a plan that he is going to follow to get this club going in the right direction again?

My impression so far is that he is more of a caretaker than a leader. Maybe I've missed something, but I have not heard him outline any plan or vision for this franchise other than acknowledging the previous one, which is currently not working.

I am hoping for some insight here in this thread through opinions and quotes/anecdotes and track record/history and the like.

Does Bob Murray have a plan, and what is it? Where will he take this franchise?

Any ideas anyone? hmm.gif

Check the date stamp.

8 years ago almost to the day, and we still have a caretaker, not a visionary.

He was hilarious.

As usual.

It was refreshing since the day was rather dull.

We got rid of one bum after 8 years.

Let's make it two with BM.

BTW L&G, just like HH pointed out your "caretaker" assessment of BM from 8 years ago was and still is spot on.

And it was the very first post in this thread, so l&g has had BMGM's number from the get go.

One would think that if BM felt that his job was on the line that he'd make a bigger splash at the TDL this season.

But as others have pointed out the limited cap space and upcoming ED seemed to have tempered things.

Maybe BM's style of managing fits more in line with Sameuli than we all think or even want to admit and therefore BM's job is not in jeopardy at all.

I think you're right.

And lgd.com nailed it years ago in regards to that.

"Just get us to the playoffs for as cheap as possible. Anything can happen!"

It's gotten to the point where Samueli will have to spend like $4mil over the Cap to underwrite Murray to the playoffs, though. Maybe the mindset will change.

Well this clearly shows that Samueli will in fact spend to the cap.

But some here feel that if the Ducks aren't at least reasonabally successful in the playoffs this year or even if they don't win the Cup outright that BM should be canned.

But if the Ducks fail miserably in the playoffs again, sadly enough, I would venture to say that it seems more likely that Samueli will still stick with BM.

Isn't it funny that BM has always justified his reactivity and inaction with "I never wanna be in cap trouble again!"  Now we're in cap trouble again and we never even got an "all in" out of it.

Instead of going all in when Lindholm Rakell Vatanen Gibson counted like 5m against the cap. Plus other cheap options. Kesler on a reasanable deal. Twins still top players. Nope. Let s stay on internal budget and give the money to old pylons in the blue line.

Exactly.

His best shot - and it was a good one - was two years ago when they got to Game 7 of the WCF.

And the players and the coach couldn't make it happen.

I'm usually pretty hard on Bob Murray (ok, always). But right now, I actually feel sorry for the guy. Can you imagine the weight he must be feeling?

And there isn't a damn thing he can do about it, either. At least if he were a coach or a player, he could do something, anything within his power to affect the outcome of the game. All that poor slob can do right now is digest his own guts.

I kind of agree and I'm probably his biggest critic on here. For all the absurd, directionless moves he's made, he's also made some smart moves as he's gone. But I don't think he's gone either way. Samuelis love him.

If things go the wrong way, I think we're due for another name change... though more drastic than the last instance.

How about the Anaheim Also-Rans?
