Maybe Guy Hebert could fill in as the radio color guy? At one point he was director of alumni relations for the Ducks, but I don't know what he's doing now a days.

So it's official.

Severyn is leaving to be closer to his family. Guess that means he starts in Toronto, Oct. 1st. eyebrow.gif wink.gif

idk... Robby doesn't strike me as an easy communicator and fast with his words and comments, but then i have never seen him beyond couple of questions after the game....
i'm all for more of Timmy's interviews though... we need a feature at least once a month biggrin.gif

Really? Maybe if we put Lindsay Soto in the booth as well... laugh.gif

In previous years, Sevvy's family lived out here during hockey season and then went back to Dallas during the off-season. This past year Severyn's daughter started school, so they stayed in Dallas while Brent was out here. It was not the ideal situation and in an attempt to be with family as much as possible, sometimes the Ducks got a bit short-changed. With his family and business in Dallas, it just became a less than ideal situation. It was not a matter of hard feelings or not being liked. It was his personal situation.

Same here; he's been on with Carroll during intermissions. Let's see what he can do full time.

Of course that leaves Zupke (fair) and Balderas (horrid) as the writers for the OCR.

Wow, congratulations to Dan. Dan seems kinda low key compared to Brent Severyn---what a change in the in-the-booth dynamics, and surprising that the Ducks would select someone who is not a former hockey player to be the "color man." I'll definitely miss him as the Ducks' beat writer; I don't particularly like either Chris Zupke or Al Balderas to fill that role.

Whoa! Talk about keeping this quiet. Last I knew, they were going to interview for the position.

Congrats to Wood!

Altho' I'm not going to assume that this means he's going to quit his day job. Don't see any conflict of interest issues or much else that would require him to quit working for the Register. He may not be able to do full-time reporting since he'll have to go on the road with the team. And having Wood even just part-time would be so much better for us OCR readers.

Dan is very knowledgeable about hockey, very bright and a great, wry sense of humor. Very different than Sevvy, but I think he'll be an interesting addition to the radio booth.

And DTP, yes, there is a conflict of interest if you are writing articles that can be critical about your employer. Dan always traveled with the team anyway, so this isn't any different than before, just in a different capacity. I'm wondering about his THN writing job, though.

"conflict of interest" or "not in your best interest if you want to remain employed with the employer you're being critical of" ?? laugh.gif

Best of luck to Dan! clover.gif

I always have to chuckle when I see that description.

It's about as deserved as the "Chief Naval Vessel of Zimbabwe":

Dan Wood better be ready to bring the opinions and insight and not just offer up factual observations. He also better bring some energy to the broadcast. I didn't like Brent Severyn because he was an ex-NHL player and teammate of Teemu Selanne's yet he couldn't pronounce the man's name correctly. I also thought he brought too much silliness into the booth and not enough insight. Wood, having never played the game professionally, had better offer strong opinions or else what will he be bringing to the broadcast other than a chance for Steve Carroll to catch his breath?

I like the risk 830 is taking with Wood and I am eager to see if it works.

I'd be in favor of that. I like Eric's coverage of the Ducks and hockey in general. And to tell you the truth, I wasn't a big fan of Dan Wood's writing. I hope he does a good job in the booth.
