Exactly.  Teddy is a badass name.  Theo is what you name a fat cat with one eye.

Is that the default "gotcha" for AD now?

It's not a gotcha. It's a request.

Why are we focusing so much on pure shot differentials in this piece? The answer is simple: It’s the area that always been Carlyle’s problem. No matter how much he talked about it, his teams were always underwater (in most cases significantly so). When that happens, we know how the story goes. Volume always wins out, and these teams find themselves on the outside looking in.

I was just coming on here to post that link!  Nice.

The good news is, if you don't want to watch this season (or any remaining seasons with RCHC, no matter what the roster or league or sport) you don't have to.  This guy already knows what is going to happen.

Like I said earlier, Advanced Stat Guy thinks RCHC is the Devil.  Or the worst coach in the history of hockey.

And after reading that, the answer is simple:  Just shoot every time you touch the puck.  Volume, volume, volume.

It's like dealing with ISIS.  Simple.  Just stop fighting, and then they will stop fighting.  We can't keep making them mad.  Not sure why this hasn't been figured out before now.......

Murray confirmed that the coaching staff will remain intact under new coach Randy Carlyle as assistants Paul MacLean, Trent Yawney and Rich Preston are all returning.

With Carlyle and MacLean behind the bench I like the Ducks chances should it ever come down to a fist fight between coaching staffs. Those two dudes strike me as guys that would be tough to beat and who would be willing to fight dirty.

It's funny. I don't think the refs ever got the memo that we had turned away from the self policing hockey. They still called us like we had Pronger, May and Brown on the team. I guess we might as well get our shots in if we're going to be in the box all the time anyway.

That's the problem with refereeing today. You call them out, they punish your team.

Too much emotion from the stripes. Stoicism should be a requirement for the job.

I think that's the way it's always been.

In the "old days", the refs could get away with more outrageous payback than they can now because of the lack of "video review". Hell, they had to chemically develop the film before they could even review anything. And those cameras were far inferior, so the visual evidence against them was highly constrained.

Straw poll to break the boredom.

Under Randy Carlye, compared to last season's numbers/results, what are your predictions on the following:

1. The Ducks will have more wins/points this season.  True or False?

2. The offense will be more productive than last season.  True or False?

3. The defense will be more effective than last season.  True or False?

4. The team will not have a slow start to the season.  True or False?

5. The team will make the playoffs.  True or False?

6. If you answered "True" to #5, the team will go further than the second round in the playoffs.  True or False?

My guesses:

1. False - they will be hard pressed to match last season's point total, and only 25 losses in 82 games will be a hard benchmark to repeat.

2. False - it could be - and it was no great shakes last season - but I don't see them as a better offensive team over last season's roster.  Mid-season changes may help.

3. False - it will be really hard for them to play as well defensively as they did last season.

4. False - they can't help it.  It's in their DNA.  The only time they have come storming out of the gates is when both Pronger and Scotty were in the Opening Night line-up, they had a Conn Smythe-winning goalie in net, a HOF sniper, and a roster of seasoned, hungry vets and talented kids.

5. True - although the Pacific could be brutally tough this season, I think they have the wherewithall to make it to the second season.

6. False - unless there are some key deadline acquisitions, or they change their stripes, I don't know that this group has the mental capacity it takes to overcome their demons.  The key guys in their Cup run all had Stanley Cup Playoff experience and success.  Their key guys now all wear the shortcomings and "not quite" labels from the past four playoff seasons.

I still don't think the Pacific is that great.

I don't know.  Queens and Sharts will be very good.  Have to hope that CGY, EDM, ARZ all are not good.  I'm not too worried about VAN-city...
