Now this, I dont understand. You cant buy-out an injured player right?

I seem to remember that if the player agrees to it, it can be done.

And I can see a situation where Despres would allow it, just wanting to move on with life and nice fat check.

Feel bad for the dude, hopefully there are no long term effects and he can live a normal life.

Same here.

At least this profession has provided what should be enough $ for him to make a financial go for the rest of his life.

There are countless people just earning a pay check and get their bell rung somehow where there is no insurance coverage or any other form of backup, and they are flat s* out of luck.

In this sense, Simon is a lucky man. But I steel feel bad for him. His dream career seemingly up in smoke.

On the Cap economics side, the Ducks could have just kept him on the payroll and received the LTIR relief for his Cap hit. This move indicates to me that we are committed to staying a budget team, and will not be spending to the Cap in normal years.

Another bummer.

Im not so sure thats the case. Yes, if we kept him on LTIR we eat his contract and get the cap relief, but look at the image above. Worst hit is this season and then it get much much better. I think it was jsut a smart decision financially and int he best interest of the player.

Isn't it rumored that Simon may not be injured anymore? Or at least not as injured? It may just be because our defense is a friggin' log jam and we need cap space.

Gotta agree with this. Notice that in the next 2 years we get a cap CREDIT.

Wow, good graphic there.

That proves the economic point decisively.

And I agree, it's in his best interest as well.

I was just pointing out that this move indicates that ownership does not want to be a Cap team, regardless of being one this season.

I'd be shocked if he continued to play. Its not in his best interest to hit the ice and get smashed ever again. I seriously doubt this has anything to do with our defense and him fitting in.

Could be. Some TSN guys were also saying this is "more than a hockey injury." How odd.

In what context? Like its a character issue? Or that the injury is no longer just about hockey its about life going forward?

I don't think they said specifically.

Most likely they were referring to the latter.

Good luck to Simon in his future endeavors.

Cap up to 75mil.

Oh for joy.

More money for the already-multimillionaire spoiled pro athletes.

So glad they are getting raises!

Cap up to 75mil.

That's only an increase of $2 mil right?

If so, that isn't that much and doesn't help teams like ANA that much who are already up against he cap.

As long as the owners are raking it in, I don't begrudge the players.

Still wish my bank account looked more like an NHLer's, though.

The cap doesn't go up unless the Owners are making a ton of money anyway. If someone is gonna get the money, to me I'd rather it be the players.

is it just me or does the jersey look exactly the same? i don't mind because when you put it next to the rest of the league, it actually looks pretty good.

There are some BAD ones... Trashville is all sorts of ugly. Our didnt change much at all. Maybe if you did one of those "Can you spot the difference" die by side pictures I would notice more.

Yeah, not a fan of the whole redesign by Adidas.  I think they did an uninspired job.  Many of the jerseys look like "T-shirt jerseys".

Vegas looks like s*, imo.  Especially the away jerseys.

Wow, home opener October 5 against the Doan-less ones.

I thought this team had to have a 6-game road trip to begin each season.

The redesigns just look flat. Nothing special.

I dont understand the red with Vegas. It doesnt belong.

I'm hoping it's the photography and the way they look on a mannequin without being able to see the whole uniform on a player.  That's my hope.  That they look better in real life.  Very few design changes at all.

The Ducks look fine, to me.  That's all I really care about.  The Original 6 look good, except for maybe DET.  They really look like a T-shirt.
