Another poor article by Eric Stephens IMO.

The way he writes it, it insinuates Despres was cleared to play in the playoffs even though he still had symptoms.

Yet Stephens doesn't take caution to get the story right and, you know, actually ask Despres if he was cleared to play while still having symptoms. How hard is that?

Ridiculous.

Right. If there is a story, THATS IT "iceman". I mean the guy is sitting there telling you he had dizziness, headaches, felt like he was gonna faint .... but he was cleared to play.

It's pretty simple. You don't need to be a wordsmith or a debate champion. Ask the question that is SCREAMING OUT "you told them about those symptoms and they left the decision to play UP TO YOU?"

BTW iceman has written 4 pre season articles now. One recounts what a great guy Carlyle is. In the other 3 he brings up the swedes 2 times. Once he pretty much says "well they aren't really hold outs until Sweden is done (not sure they are hold outs when Sweden is done unless Bob is confirming he's made his last, best and final offer). He then says WITHOUT ANY SOURCING "they are bullish they'll have them signed". I point this out because there is NO NONE ZERO ZILCH indication that ownership/mgmt has been asked the question or said a word about it. THAT TO ME IS THE SIN. Again, the obvious questions here are 1) What do the players say is going on and 2) What does mgmt say is going on. JUST ASK THEM, ICEY. It's really that easy. "Can I speak to Bob Murray for Mcnabb please for just a handful of questions". Then if you get to talk to them, ask them! If you don't get to talk to them say "mgmt is not taking questions on this".

It's not the end of the world, but for christ sakes it's pretty simple. I don't give a flying f*** what Eric Stephens THINKS the team is thinking about this, I want him to f*ing ASK THEM. How hard is that?

THis isnt good...

Murray sounded very glum about Simon Despres, who didn't play third last night. Referenced issues he had last year, which were concussive.

Plan is to have Despres see specialists. Wasn't a hit or fall. "Something’s wrong here and we've got to get to the bottom of it here."

I gotta admit, I'm worried for Despres. Ever since that Barrie hit, he hasnt been right.

Yeah, he was a dynamic skater and hitter until the concussion. Hope they can figure it out.

Just an aside - and I'm as guilty as the next guy (though not over Crosby).

Crosby is getting called a pussy a LOT on twitter and all around the net - and if not that at least 'china doll'. I think that's pretty weak. This guys got his nose in the middle of a lot of scrums and plays a very violent game with some very violent people and gets hit a LOT.  He may not be Keith Tkachuk or someone you identify as a "tough guy" but he sure isn't a pussy, and he'd beat the s* out of 95 of 100 of these internet guys going after him. We feel bad for Despres, but other guys take crap for the same sort of thing.

Just me shouting at kids on my lawn, don't take it persona. Hell I did it too Kariya for years.

Curtis Zupke ‏@curtiszupke  2h

Ducks GM Bob Murray all but confirmed Simon Despres has another concussion issue even though he wasn't hit. "There's something wrong here."

So could this be our opportunity to create enough Cap space to sign Lindholm?

Not to be a mercenary towards Despres, but this could be a boon for our cap situation. If Despres goes on LTIR, his salary can be dumped.

But again for the umpteenth time, Samueli has to agree to not only forget being a budget team, he will have to agree to pay WAY over the Cap. Instead of being 10% under the Cap, we'd easily be 10% over the Cap with this scenario of Despres gong on LTIR.

One consideration is that the Ducks most likely have insurance to cover an event like Despres going on LTIR.

I feel sorry for Despres. Hope they figure things out soon. I do agree that the silver lining is if they put him on LTIR it frees up cap space for Lindholm.

I hear what you're saying, some people take it too far with Crosby. He's top 5 player in the league and a he'll of a leader for his team.

But....

He has earned his reputation to a certain degree. Take the worst aspects of Getzlaf and Brown, and you have Crosby.

Cries to the refs and ducks out of fights after instigating.

Doesn't mean he's a pussy because he got concussed though. Head injuries are no joke and shouldn't be taken lightly. Screw the hockey part of it, this is the life part. Thats what scares me about the Despres situation.

The dude wasn't even touched. He had a full summer to get healthy and this happens. Yeah cool we might get LTIR relief but damn, dudes career could be over and who knows how his health will be going forward.

That's a bit strong.

The absolute worst aspect of Brown is he takes liberties with other players' health with his dangerous cheapshoting. That's not Crosby in any way, shape, or form.

I don't know about that.  Crosby takes a lot of liberties (slashing, spearing) at the back of player's legs.  It's not quite the kneeing and slew footing of Brown, but Crosby is at least Perry level of dirty.

Has Crosby ever injured anyone to the point they missed games?

I don't know if he has directly.  But wasn't there some incident 4-5 years ago where he jumped in a fight as the third man (I believe it was against the Flyers) and the opponent got REALLY messed up?

What, did Sindy hit him with his purse?

Touche. Crosby isnt the dirt bag that Brown is. Regardless, he does do the 'instigate a skate away' BS that Brown is notorious for.

Ducks place D Despres on waivers for buyout

This is a sad day for me. He was my favorite player when he was actually playing. I guess he got healthy just in time to be bought out.

I thought the Ducks had little tolerance for buyouts, yet they buy out a guy signed through 2024.  Shows you the importance of the cap.

My mistake, that's just the buyout length.  Plus obviously there are injury issues at play..

Perhaps it was the LA Times, but even though Despres was off IR during the playoffs and skating a little, it was stated that he was still a long, long way off from being ready to return.  I would dare say he won't play again.  The length of the contract and the reality of the situation sort of forced the Ducks to buy him out.  They didn't really have any other choice.  I did and still do wish Despres well and hopefully an ability to be healthy in the future.
