If we dont flip Vatanen, then yes, I would have rather kept Theodore. Maybe throw some icing ont he cake and see if they still would have taken Stoner. Ive soured on Vatanen that much, where I just dont want him on the team anymore.

Then check yourself.  Before you wreck yourself.

Why? He was outperformed by rookies all season. He has become easily replaceable . Hes no longer the point machine. A big bowl of Meh. In case you havent noticed my signature, Ive been on board the trade Vatanen train for a while now.

Not all season. Not at the Worlds.

Either way, I'm not ready to give up on an offensive force because he had 1 bad season.

The Ducks' forward group does not match up to the Penguins - at all.

Crosby>Getzlaf
Malkin>Kesler
Kessel=Perry
Bonino>Vermette (except on FO's)
Hornqvist<Rakell
Sheary=Silfverberg
Guentzel>Ritchie
Kunitz=Cogliano
Cullen>Thompson

The two at the top are the key.

Agreed. Hopefully the Ducks will have a better cast of forwards a year from now.

Trading him for a good young forward is one thing.  And I'm on board with that.

Losing him for nothing as opposed to losing Theodore and one year of Stoner in an ED scenario where you are guaranteed to lose a good player is another.  That's what I was referring to.

And, I'm not convinced Sami Vatanen is done producing and performing at the NHL level.  By a long shot.

The scuttlebutt now is that BMGM most likely will not move Vatanen, as the return is not worth it.  We'll see.

One guy could make a big difference.  I'm also excited that hopefully a new young guy from the system can make a splash.

What?  By Theodore and Montour?

Vatanen: 71GM, 3 G, 21 A, +3

Theodore: 34 GM, 2 G, 7 A, -6

Montour: 27 GM, 2 G, 4 A, +11

I don't see "outperformance" there.  Better PPG than either rookie.  And Vatanen had a down year.

Montour's +11 is what stands out for me. Why I've liked him more than Theo from Day 1. Bob did the right thing.

Well this is an interesting development. Not that it matter for us...

Have confirmed this with Bill Daly just now: There is no blanket rule prohibiting a team from re-acquiring player lost in exp draft already

The league just has to be satisfied it wasn't pre-cooked or part of a broader transaction that is attempting to circumvent exp draft rules

The Jan. 1 rule is for players traded to other teams before the expansion draft; they can't be re-acquired prior to Jan. 1
