I don't think you can say that it was a guarantee that Eaves would get injured. Injuries are part of the game. It happens to everyone (except maybe Cogs); some more than others.

Any other player on the Ducks gets injured and you would easily chaulk it up to "that's hockey". Yet when Eaves gets injured you want to chaulk that up to "BM should have known this would happen". I don't think that's fair; that's 20/20 hindsight.

If Eaves had stayed healthy, you wouldn't be saying a thing about this.

While I agree that there was no way to "guarantee" Eaves would get injured, the guy in 12 seasons - all "full" seasons for him, no 10 game call-ups - has played 624 of a possible 984 games.

Go back and look at his history. Look at how many games hes played every single season. You want to paint this as 20/20 hindsight, 20/20 hindsight would mean I am only being reactionary, which is not the case.

Eaves is a health risk. There is no other way to put it. There is no wiggle room with him. Every single season, he misses games. Sometimes more significant than others, but he misses games and always has.

I stand by my comments in regards to his health. I saw the pattern when we traded for him, and the pattern held true.

Devil's advocate: 79 games is essentially a full season. He has been healthy for the whole season, at the time we got him and into the playoffs there was no sign of the injury prone player. It would be fair to think he put that behind him.

I can't find stats of when he injured himself last year, but maybe he played that last 54 games so he had been healthy for a year and a half. I have no idea.

79 games is a full season. Wont ague that. It was his 1st full season in his entire career. And then he gets hurt 7 (?) games into the playoffs? I dont think its fair at all to say hes put the injuries behind him. This is what we would call an outlier, and even then, fast forward 7 games and BOOM injury. Pattern.

The devil's advocate statement was to say I can see how it would be justified trading for him by saying "this guy's played over a year fully healthy, looks like he put that injury history behind him".

Knowing what we know now I certainly don't think he put it behind him and it was pretty clearly just an extension of his history to get injured again. But I think it might be fair to say at the time of acquiring him that it looked like he put it behind him.

Possibly? Valid point, maybe Im just a cynic when it comes to this stuff. If a guy get injured or misses a large amount of games for 12 seasons, Im pretty much expecting him to spontaneously combust at any minute

I agree, I think we lucked out with his 10 goals in 20 games or whatever it was. He played a big part.

I'd like to keep him at a low price but that ain't gonna happen. Farewell Patrick, we hardly knew ye.

What WOULD you resign him for? Or at this point is he too unreliable?

I looked up his history, I was pretty surprised to see he's never been paid more than $1.4/yr. The Stars signed him at $1/yr this year. I'd re-up him $1/yr maybe a little wiggle room but not $2.

Eaves bloated deal also comes with a limited NTC. Player submits an 8 team trade list.

We are stacking up the un-moveable or hard to move players.

It's the other way around and therefore is a very limited NTC (in favor of the Ducks). He submits an 8 team "no" trade list.

The chances are that Fiore is merely keeping a spot warm for a more proven winger, most likely Patrick Eaves once he is able to shake off a lower-body injury that’s kept him from making his preseason debut.

I think it's still the injury from the playoffs

Patrick Eaves remains off the ice to deal with a lower-body injury that Carlyle said is not related to the ankle and foot issues that ended his season in the second round of the playoffs.

What did he do?  I thought he was still nursing that old injury, and I'm trying to remember if he has even skated since then.  Did he fall off a step-stool or something?

He was playing in a ping pong tournament and pulled his groin going for a deadly backhand

After "Pancakes" Penner, and the Goalie who cut his hand making dinner, it's not out of the question...
