With Doug Weight in the penalty box for boarding Jason Pominville, a call the Canes vehemently protested, Briere got the puck at the left circle and put a shot on net that was stopped by Carolina goalie Cam Ward. The rebound jumped into the air and landed behind Ward, bouncing into the net at 4:22 of overtime.
...
"I saw the light go on," Briere said. "I saw the fans kind of jumping up. I couldn't see much from the blue line. I mean, it's a heck of a feeling when you see everybody getting up in the building and the building's going nuts like that."
...
And now the Sabres have their Game 7, and make no mistake about it, Game 7 is something they have wished for.

"It's going to be fun," coach Lindy Ruff said. "The focus is let's have fun with it. We have been in, I don't know, 10 of our last 11 games have been one-goal games, something like that, you know, stress level has been high every game. Every game has been tight and these guys just keep pushing through. I think we have been four out of five or five out of six overtime games now. It just tells you the effort. I said it, I think I said it yesterday, was you can stand back there and know you are going to get the effort, which is pretty special."

"We're going to have to be a lot sharper than that," he {Laviolette} said. "You know, if it weren't for Cam Ward, in that first period, it would have been a lot worse, a lot worse. And he showed up and played and that's not right. We had one of the youngest kids on the team being the best player. That's disappointing. We responded, but, you know, it cost us a goal in the first period and we pulled one out at the end, but had we showed up and played maybe it's a 1-0 game."

"There is a special bond going on in our room this year," Briere said. "We have the same guys right now in this dressing room that were in this same room during training camp. Nobody from the outside came in. There were no trades made at the last minute that would have had to been added to the chemistry in this room. We've been together for over eight months now. Every day now we spend more time with each other than we do with our families."

In an Eastern Conference finals series tied 3-3, the Hurricanes' home-ice advantage might be the only discernible difference between evenly matched teams playing Thursday for the right to face Edmonton in the Stanley Cup finals. Five games have been decided by a goal, the last two in overtime. And throughout the series, momentum has turned with each shift.

biggrin.gif I've always been keen on bonding a team. Too many changes just disrupt everything. I'm glad to see that the Sabres see eye to eye with me on this. Kinda' makes me want them to win... tongue.gif

Although I don't favor either team, I'm looking forward to a good game. I'm even leaving work earlier to watch it banana.gif
