Stone-faced Peter Laviolette, coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, knows a thing or two about Edmonton Oilers goalie Ty Conklin.
A couple of years ago, Laviolette coached Team USA to a surprise -- and some say shocking -- bronze medal performance at the World Hockey Championship in Prague. His goalie was Ty Conklin.

With the injury to Dwayne Roloson, either Ty Conklin, left, and Jussi Markkanen will be in net for Game 2.
"Our game plan is going to stay the same," he said. "The last thing you want to do is start standing up in front of the goaltender trying to do his job. We don't need two goaltenders -- you want to make sure that we reinforce the things that we were reinforcing when Roly was playing and that the goaltender gets the good sight lines on the puck; there's not a lot of second- and third-shot opportunities or you take care of deflections and to make sure the goalie sees it, again, is important.
"Then you let the goaltender's natural ability take the game and you just have to make sure that they are seeing the pucks and there's not a lot of rebounds."

"This team has always rallied around adversity. It's a team that takes adversity and uses it to better themselves…. I'm sure the guys are going to be rallying and doing whatever it takes to win hockey games. The spirit in our room hasn't changed."
...
"I had some difficult times this year, obviously," said Conklin, who was 8-5-1 with a 2.80 goals-against average and .880 save percentage in 18 games this season.
"Things can turn around really quick, with this opportunity and this situation."
...
"I haven't played for a long time, but I played a lot of hockey early and I feel it's a great chance to play in the Stanley Cup finals. We are here and this is no time to look back," said Markkanen, who started 15 straight games and 17 of 18 in October and November and was 7-9-1 in that span.
"I know I can play in this league and I'm pretty honored to be on this team and be where we are now. If it's going to be me, I'm just going to enjoy it and try to relax and have fun."

"Whoever's in there, we know we're going to have our hands full," Weight said. "First and foremost we've got to play a better game. They're both capable goalies. That's why they're in this league and they've proven it."
