Rhett Rakhshani and Cameron Cepek of Huntington Beach, T.J. Miller of Placentia and San Juan Capistrano's Joey Perricone are on the radar screens of the 30 NHL teams as general managers and scouts gather in Vancouver for today's entry draft.
...
Rakhshani, 18, played for the Wave until spending the past two seasons in Ann Arbor, Mich., with the U.S. National Development Program. A right wing coming off an 18-goal, 41-point season in 50 games with the U.S. under-18 team, he is the top NHL draft prospect from California this year, the only one to be invited to the league's annual scouting combine that concluded earlier this month in Toronto.
...
Though it meant giving up his collegiate eligibility, Cepek joined the WHL's Portland Winter Hawks after being selected in the 2003 bantam draft. A 6-foot-1, 170-pound defenseman with three years of junior eligibility remaining, Cepek had two goals, 10 points and 71 penalty minutes in 21 games for Portland this season. Recovered from a broken wrist that limited his ice time, Cepek is ranked 83rd among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.

That would be helpful as it's never good when you can't understand someone. Not only does it mean that some people may not understand your post and may ignore you in the future but it has a habit of annoying the mods. noexpression.gif

thats awesome! its good to see hockey grow in areas of the U.S. where hockey is not a major sport. its good for american hockey, and you never know, the Ducks may someday draft some local talent. South Florida is up and coming too with interest in hockey.

Thunderbird rookie Sena Acolatse is originally from Fremont, CA...northern California I know...but Cali all the same! His family moved to Edmonton when he was 8 so he could play in Canada. He's fast becomeing a favourite player of mine, hard nosed, great shot, a good fighter.
QUOTE
Seattle general manager Russ Farwell said Acolatse's skill and coordination were obvious, but that wasn't why he drafted him with the 76th choice in the 2005 bantam draft. "I loved his spirit," Farwell said. "He just played so tough and so hard all the time. And he was so cool and patient with the puck. It can drive coaches nuts, but that's how you make plays."

CHAMP: Hockey player Mitch Wahl is photographed holding the 2008 Memorial Cup in Canada. He and team Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League recently won the Memorial Cup Championship.

QUOTE
A storybook hockey season for Mitch Wahl is likely to culminate this weekend in Ottawa.

Less than four weeks removed from playing a starring role as the Western League champion Spokane Chiefs captured junior hockey's biggest prize, the Memorial Cup, Wahl projects as an early round selection in the two-day NHL draft that begins Friday.

An offensively gifted 6-foot, 175-pound center from Seal Beach, Wahl "could be a home run" for whichever NHL team selects him, Chiefs coach Bill Peters said.

SEMI-PRO: Hockey player Colin Long plays for the Western Hockey League's Kelowna, (B.C.) Rockets. He is likely to be drafted in one of the top rounds of the NHL draft Friday.
(H. Lorren Au Jr, OCR)

QUOTE
Passed over in the NHL draft during his first season of eligibility last year, Colin Long has done seemingly everything possible to make sure the same thing doesn't happen again this weekend.

After finishing second in the Western Hockey League with 100 points, including 31 goals, for the Kelowna Rockets this season, Long is projected to be chosen fairly high in the NHL's two-day draft that begins Friday in Ottawa.
