Panthers sign Salei for four years

QUOTE
Sources tell TSN that the deal is worth $12.1-million over four years.

I will miss Rusty, but I think the Panthers paid way too much for him.

Three million a year for four years. Still think we should have re-signed him? He made $1.8 million last year and nearly doubled that.

Burke did the right thing for the Ducks in not re-signing him and Salei did the right thing for him and his family to not settle for the Ducks offer. Good for Rusty and good luck to him.

It's always sad to see a player leave a team that he has been with his entire career. He was a great part of this team and I wish him the best with the Panthers. It is nice to see him end his reign on the blue line as a Mighty Duck.

Rusty is a warrior and we can't thank him enough for the OT winner against the Devils. I have to agree with SC, that is too much money for him. Not enough production and too many bad penalties. If the owners are going to shell out this type of cash for the Salei's of the world they better not complain when they need to restructure the next CBA because salaries are out of control.

I appreciate everything he has done with the ducks and i wish him well. This now makes Teemu Selanne the most tenured duck (that's still with us).

Rusty was always considered trade bait and other teams were asking about him in the past. I'm not surprised that someone took him. Rusty wanted some long term security and didn't want to deal with annual contract negotiations. That's more than reasonable.

I'm surprised at what Florida paid, but it's not our salary cap. I'll miss the old guy and I know he'll be missing Francaise in Florida. He always did enjoy looking at her during warm ups!

From one sunny state of hockey to another - best of luck Rusty! Thanks for everything!

I'm not sure if 3 million is too much or not, but for 4 years??? Burke at the select-a-seat had said he wasn't sure if Rusty had 3 years left in him (I'm guessing that is what he was asking the Ducks for). So four years might be a stretch for him.

sad.gif It is sad. One by one all the old "core" players are going away. The face of the Ducks sure has changed. Us old folks miss the familiar faces.
I'm sure going to miss Rusty and only wish him all the best. I am glad he got all that money. Now if there was some way I could get that kind change..... bluegreedy.gif
