Was giving up budding Superstar Lupul, top prospect Smid, and those future draft picks all worth the while?

It's only July. The schedule isn't even out yet. It does remain to be seen. Also, it's only the fourth day of the free agency period. If this was the end of Sept...then yeah, I'd be able to gage how well the team will perform.

My opinion isn't an option in this poll so I'm not going to vote. Like most trades I'll wait til the season starts before I'll judge this trade.

True value of a deal will be judged in the future, not before anyone has played any games.

The reason Giguere was not in the deal is because the Oilers had re-signed Roloson and didn't need a goalie. And considering the history with Ryan Smyth and Giguere, I'm not sure that would have been smart. Interesting fireworks potential, but not necessarily good team building.

It's the Oilers. I would love to see then crumble due to locker room troubles(Not physically like a gas line leak). Joffrey, JS, and ladislav could all get traded somewhere decent.

Anything less than a Western Conference Finals appearance should be viewed as a disappointment.

But when you loose someone who scored almost 30 goals last season then you question where your offense will come from

And led by Pronger, Edmonton was able to shut down Thornton/Cheechoo, something the Ducks couldn't do last season. LOOK OUT WEST!!

You cannot estimate a player that quickly got traded and all of a sudden people are saying "we are the champs etc" and "we have the cup already". You never know what could happen with Chris in the middle of the season...

The season has not begun at all and I will hold my word until for now I will be patiently waiting for the new season to start.

I agree with you and the others what was said. Besides take a look at teams that got big star names last season and didn't make it to the playoffs. For example: Pittsburgh!

At the end of the season you gotta look at what pittsburgh was left with

Sidney Crosby
thats about it
Sid isnt gonna carry a whole team of not so good players on his back to the Cup

so
id say the ducks have a much better chance

I voted the engraving thingy (Karma) because I think we will do quite well, but not the mild success that was given as a choice.

We'd have one hell of a defensive corp, but our O remains a big question mark for me.

pronger can help the ducks more than lupul the next 2 years, but he is more expensive and older than lupul and of course lupul would be the player for the future...

so i voted for it will come back to bite us.
