Whoa! I'm glad Ducks training camp is open to all (altho' they have occasionally had special season ticket holder only sessions)

QUOTE
The lines weren't nearly as long.

But the weather was dry — for the most part — as fans camped out at Centre ICE overnight to buy tickets to the Detroit Red Wings training camp.

UGHH I totally missed this! Family and I were tossed around the idea me coming to visit and time it with the camp as it's right near where they live and usually I fly into Traverse City but don't think I'm going back until the holidays.

DTP - I think they do this due to the demand and it's kind a big thing in the area.

Kind of a mixed blessing there ... we don't have to pay or fret about getting in to watch our Ducks in training camp or practices, but we don't get the media coverage or the Pond filled to the gills with loud rabid Ducks fans either.

It is indeed a mix blessing. On one hand for the Wings there is full coverage in the media and it is nice to see hockey as a top story on both the TV and newspaper but then it's hard to get tickets to things. And for the Ducks, even though media coverage is way less, it is nice to take advantage of that when it comes to the games and events. I pretty much enjoy both advantages taking what Ducks games/events that I can and able to keep up with the Wings with the net and TV.

In the meantime, Holland has other projects.

"I'd like to get one more forward," he said Monday.

The Wings have 20 players signed to contracts totaling about $39 million against the $44-million salary cap. But as the Wings learned last season, when both Fischer and Niklas Kronwall were sidelined, it is imperative to have maneuverability.

I always thought it would be "Henrita" Zetterburg for this job since every Wing fan has been talking about it.

For some reason I thought it would be Chelios, but with Shanahan gone, the choice is excellent IMO.

I thought it would be Chelli or Lindstrom. It probably would have been Shanny if he was still with the team. And I agree, Lindstrom is an excellent choice.

Did you hear they're gonna retire Yzerman's number during a Ducks vs. Wings game.

Figures, I'll be leaving Michigan just days prior! If it wasn't for already having NYE plans here, I'd see about extending my trip. Getting tickets though will be insane.

The season of seasoning began for Jimmy Howard five days ago.

If Howard is to become the goalie of the future for the Detroit Red Wings, the timeline is set this simply -- use this year to sharpen his skills in the minors, then become a Red Wing, if ready.
