My grandparents are German and are from Essen. Why are the Moskitos not in the DEL anymore? Was it a similar situation like Munich's? I liked them very much and even have a Terry Yake Moskitos jersey.

Philip Gogulla is staying in Germany for another year. I like him, I saw him play in the World Juniors and was impressed with him.

The Moskitos Essen play in the second league in Germany. It was not the similar situation like Munich. The Munich Barons have a new name and a new home town. They are now the Hamburg Freezers. The Moskitos Essen were too bad for the DEL, so they had to go town in the second league. In the new season there is no drop amymore in the DEL, so the Moskitos Essen cannot play in the DEL in the future. Just the teams which are now in the league.

Ah, okay, thanks for the info. smile.gif I am just happy that they are still around.

Who is the best player in DEL? During the olympics I thought Eduard Lewandowski was good. I wouldnt know if he is one of the top players in DEL, but his stats look pretty good.

Eddi had a great season last year. Sadly he didn't show his best Hockey during the Olympics. he is much better! I belive he could have gotten a ticket to the NHL if he could live up to his full potential when he is wearing german Jersey.

The new season has started. Mannheim has a real good roster. But I think and I hope that the Eisbären will win this year with their young players. At the moment it looks good. What are your favourites?

I ecpect Mannheim to win the title.they have a great roster with really good germans and good foreigners.Berlin has a good team, but you have to wait, who will be signed in the enxt weekes.Düsseldorf should have a shot,Frankfurt too,but both teams have a lot of new players and it will take some time.Hamburg and Ingolstadt could also have a shot, but probably it's a way to early.

The Hannover Scorpions signed former Mighty Ducks Todd Simpson. That's a great signing for the team of Hans Zach. I think they will have a chance to win the championship, too.

I know this is a thread about German hockey but it would be a help if the comments were posted in English. That way more members can join in with the conversation.

If you wish to chat in German then please either use the PM system or use this thread.

Thanks

The Hamburg Freezers stole the coach from Black Wings Linz! That is the worst move I've ever seen in hockey. Bill Stewart said that he quit the contract with the Black Wings because he had no time to see his family here. The weird thing is that his family lives in Canada...
I can't believe that the Freezers bribe him to break the contract.
And after that contemptuous move the Freezers are still not tired they try to get 2 players from us!
But not with us, not with the Black Wings, we will arraign Stewart and the Freezers and we will win this!

Ian Moran signed a contract in Berlin last week: http://www.germanhockey.net/item.asp?ID=84 (English article).

He only played a single game for Anaheim, but still: he is a former Duck smile.gif

Two games later Moran has one assist to his name and is -1 on plus/minus. He got his assist in his first game against Ingolstadt, in which he had a +2 and -2 = 0 plus/minus rating.

Here is his profile on the Berlin website: http://www.eisbaeren.de/content/16.php?act...ail&s_id=67

The website has done a Podcast interview with Moran, which is available in MP3. It starts in German and the interviewer keeps translating, but the interview itself is in English. Close to 12Mb and runs for about 12 minutes. The interview starts within the minute, so be patient:

And finally a picture of Moran accepting his jersey:

Does anybody know if Garrett Festerling from the Hannover Scorpions is the brother of Ducks' Brett Festerling?

Are they twins?

Well, both are born March 3rd in 1986 in the Canadian town of Quesnel that has a total population of 9,326 people. So, I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate - yes, they are twins... biggrin.gif

Looks like there is a sibling rivalry ... with Brett having the upper hand.

QUOTE
However, the top scorer in the WHL playoffs is making an exception in the case of his twin brother Brett, a stalwart defenceman and captain of the Vancouver Giants. Garrett Festerling is eager to renew his sibling rivalry with Brett, even though it may take a berth in the Memorial Cup to do it.
...
"I warned him a long time ago (to start looking over his shoulder), ever since he beat us in Vancouver," Garrett said with a grin, referring to his team's 2-0 loss to the Giants on Nov. 18. "I told him I guess we'll have to see you in the Mem Cup."

Garrett and Brett Festerling, who turned 21 on March 3, are in their final season of junior eligibility. The brothers also share a burning desire to end their WHL careers on a high note.
