All interesting questions.

Right now Malkin will be with Magnitogorsk unless the Penguins fork over big bucks.

It affects any player who rights are owned by a Russian hockey club.

Any player who is not drafted or played in the NHL will be allowed to compete in the Worlds.

That leaves quite a poor selection. Home Worlds are sinking like Titanic under that scenario...

Sport-Express has a story/interview on (and with) Malkin.

In there:

Velichkin yesterday announced in Ufa that Malkin will play in Russia. Is not now with team at the tournament, just recovering from operation and training with 2nd team of Magnitogorsk back home.

Malkin - 95% sure NHL it is. Time is ready.

Dave King (coach) - it would be wise for Malkin to remain in Russia for 1 more seaason...

Links: Malkin & King (both in Russian).

Only if they get sued....Malkin gave his two-week notice.
QUOTE
Malkin is under contract to his Russian team, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, through 2008. But a provision in Russian labor law allows employees to leave their jobs whether a contract exists or not after giving two weeks' written notice.

Malkin has already given such notice, Meehan said yesterday.

Actually they are going to court over that ruling.

Malkin has start negotiating with the Penguins as well but if he comes to the NHL with the agreement....The Penguins could be sued by the RHF much like they did with Alexander Semin.

I think any lawsuit is gonna get thrown out. He's operating within the law, and it's Russia's own fault for not taking what the NHL offered in the transfer agreement. Now instead of getting what was offered to them, they will probably get nothing for any of their players.
