Since my enthusiasm for the UK game has waned slighty, I'm not going to post live game updates this season. However I will post full time results for the teams that several Allducks members support. I'll post them in this thread during the season.

If anyone that is new to UK hockey has any questions then feel free to ask away. smile.gif

Sunday 3rd of September.

SNL

Dundee Stars 5 Paisley Pirates 2

I didn't go to the game as I wasn't feeling 100% but Craig said it was okay though not really worth the money. We are going to pick and choose the games we go to now instead of going to them all. If I'm not up to it then I'm giving it a miss. Good to see that the Stars won though smile.gif

WOWZERS!!!! 17 to 1?
Ya hate to see a score like that because then you're thinkin' that SOMEone ran up the score just because they could. That doesn't seem all that sporting to me. Yes, I want my favorite teams to be victorious, but ......

You've hit the nail exactly on the head Reb. This is why we didn't go to last nights game. The problem in the SNL now is that there is really a two tier system within the league with different levels of ability from club to club. Some matches are okay and others are complete hammerings that are unnesessary. They don't help the players and certainly don't help the sport as a whole. This was what happened last season in the SNL and it looks like it going to continue this season. I hate what my team has turned into and the interest in the local game is slipping away because of it. There was only 550 people at last night's game, a lot of fans don't want to pay for this type of hockey.

I'm not saying my team playing in the EIHL is the answer, far from it. This isn't just the rambling of a bitter fan. I'm saying that the clowns that are in charge of these matters should put away their petty differences and create something else that benefits all the teams in the UK before more teams go under.

Absolutely spot on, Barmy. It is not good for the sport to see those kind of scores on a regular basis. The politics of British ice hockey are a mess. The different leagues should be working with each other to get the best for everyone but instead we have idiots who decide which teams get to go into which league based not on suitability but on geographical location. If I were you, Barmy, I would definitely be bitter. In fact, I am bitter on behalf of all Stars fans.

Wow - 550 people to a Stars home game. I remember a time back in the FBNL when Dundee would bring practically that many to an away game that was hundreds of miles away!

The leagues need to sort themselves out, before we have the situation that we used to have with the Superleague and the entire thing collapses again.

As you can see I'm not as passionate about the UK game as a few years back. But I'm quite happy to keep posting scores and articles for the Allducks bunch.

I agree with you Barmy and Britduck! I enjoyed sitting at the Barn watching the flyers really fighting against a good oponenet, or even in the freezing temp of Murryfield to watch the Caps suppries us all by winning. But now I dont go, I went to one match last year and it wasn't worth the train fair! If I want to watch a team be beated by 10 goals I'll sit and play on my PS2. It doesn't help the young players or the fans. British hockey needs to sort itself out before it imploads!

Useless info from SNL

The Dundee Stars away game was cancelled last night due to Paisley's rink closure. There is a possibilty that the Pirates may be able to play out of another rink but that's not 100% yet. Also to add to the SNL fab organisational skills, the Aberdeen game was cancelled as the bus driver took ill on-route to play the Solway Sharks and they coudn't get a replacement driver. The Dundee Tigers was also cancelled though no one knows why. Complete farce. rolleyes.gif

I've heard on the grapevine that the Avalanche didn't ice a full team as some of their players were involved in a car accident on route to Dundee, thankfully everyone is okay. I'm really starting to think the SNL is jinxed. sad.gif

I think, and hope, the SNL can get some parity amongst all the teams. That would be nice. smile.gif
I was looking at the results on the DundeeStars website before logging on here and was disappointed to read of another blow-out. sad.gif The last two games the 3rd period of each saw Dundee run up the score by 8 goals and the opposition seemingly having packed up and gone home as they tallyed goose-eggs. 0. Zip. Zilch. Nada. I know all of us want to see our favorite teams do well, but, to me, part of the excitement is not knowing until that final whistle whether YOUR team will be victorious or crybaby.gif

Now I can't really say anything about it as I'm over here but if you'll allow me the liberty I'd suggest that the league divide the players up such that parity might be achieved. I THINK that when you are trying to build an entertaining (for the fans) program it's something you've got to do. I'm probably wrong, but that's what I think. I believe healthy competition where the outcome isn't assured lends itself to a winning philosophy, over-all, for everyone involved. The fans. The players. Management. ALL.

That's my idea and I'll stick to it. wink.gif

I hope everyones alright! unfortunatly if the players were driving I'm not too suprised, hockey players never seem to make good drivers in my view!

as for deviding the players it's a good idea, but most SNL players are from that town and so it'd be a big move for people to be relocated, but Britsh hockey needs a big shake up so who knows?

The Coventy - Cardiff game last night was good fun. The scoreline does not really reflect the competitive nature of the game, as both sides played well and had good games, with lots of good scoring chances for both teams (although I believe the Blaze out-shot the Devils by quite a bit!). Well done to the Devils for getting the win though, as that is all that counts in the end! sad.gif

I don't mean to cause any inconveniancies in this thread, but I've switched teams. tongue.gif

The atmosphere at Romford games is just terrible: the fans make it feel more like a West Ham United football/soccer game than a hockey game. It just sucks (plus the selection of music is horrible). The rink sucks too. There's no glass: just a great big net. And the whole place looks like it's gonna fall apart soon.

I recently started going to some Chelmsford Cheiftains games (I live inbetween both teams, pretty much) and everything was a hundred times better: much micer rink, glass, passionate fans (no stupid football chanting either), bearable music, and the team seem to have more of a hockey spirit. Heck, they even have their own mascot.

So, yeah. The Cheiftains are my favourite local team now. wink.gif I'll be going to a home game there tommorow with some friends.

Poor Devils. They are stuck freezing theit butts off in Basingstoke for their 'home' games, but it's better than nothing, I suppose. Hopefully they will get something sorted out soon. pray.gif
