Rick DiPietro had a tough game last night against the Boston Bruins, allowing three goals on just 14 shots.


Detroit defenceman Danny Markov suffered a strained left MCL and will have an MRI today. The team is optimistic this is just a slight injury. He left last night's game late in the first period. - Detroit Free Press


Detroit Head Coach Mike Babcock reported on his goaltending position, stating that Nova Scotian Joey MacDonald would stick with the big club as the third goalie. Panthers fizzle in Puerto Rico
It seemed an odd, almost unreal setting into which Alex Auld was placed to try to resuscitate his reputation Saturday.

Latin music blared in the background. Fans banged together inflatable Thundersticks while "oohing" and "aahing" every hit along the boards. Announcements were made in Spanish, then English.
...
Auld said he had an unusual experience at the Panthers' hotel when autograph seekers showed up with a strange request.

"They'd give you a stack of cards and ask you to flip through them, to find if you were in there," he said. "If you were, then they'd want an autograph.

Pro ice hockey gets warm reception in Caribbean debut

Rangers goaltender Al Montoya, the NHL's first Cuban-American player, offered a bit of advice for hockey novices before the game: 'All you really gotta know is the puck's gotta go in the net,' said Montoya, 21, whose helmet reads 'Big Cubano.' Like the rest of the Rangers and the Panthers, Montoya's game jersey had a small Puerto Rican flag stitched to it.

For Panthers season ticket holder Bob Jasky, of Boca Raton, who won a free trip to San Juan to watch the game, the only downside was feeling outnumbered by Rangers fans. 'I've been playing hockey since I was five years old in Detroit,' said Jasky, 59. 'If you had said to me that I'd be watching the first NHL game ever to be played in Puerto Rico, I would have said you're crazy. For me it's a thrill.' Many in the boisterous crowd were die-hard Rangers fans who live or had lived in New York. Some had flown to San Juan just for the game.
