Hmm, does the "mighty nice" trend still apply? Now that we're not mighty? hmm.gif

Anyway, back to the point...

Shannon flies with the Ducks in strong bid to make NHL club
QUOTE
Shannon’s National Hockey League debut — just like his entire first pro season in the AHL — was a hustling affair.

He set up a pair of goals in the Anaheim Ducks’ 6-3 home win over San Jose at the Arrowhead Pond in game No. 2 of a busy pre-season slate on Sept. 20.

And, just like last season, when Shannon, 23 of Darien, paced the Portland Pirates in points, he was named a star-of-the-game. Two assists, second star-of-the-game, in only his first time skating in the NHL. He’s got five points, including a shootout goal, in only four games. Just like with the Pirates, its a shiny point-per-contest badge pinned to Shanny’s chest.

Ducks coach Randy Carlyle? He’s noticing.

Darien Times article

He doesn't have the masterful grip on cliches that some Ducks have lol_1.gif but there are some quotable quotables...the graphic design gears are turning. biggrin.gif

Shannon is most definitely my favorite young Duck, with Scotty Nieds as my favorite old(er) Duck.

I love to see the kid play.

Shannon a Quick Standout
QUOTE
Back in the hockey coldbed of Fairfield County, Conn., Ryan Shannon went to his first hockey practice when he was 3 years old.

What brought him back the next week - even just to press his face against the glass - has brought him here.

ok so I was parusing Fantasyhockey.com site and they named the hottest sleepers to draft and look what I came up on... Haha he had the right idea but was a little off on the info. Could you imagine if this was true?
Ryan Shannon, ANA (1g, 5a with a +7)
Though he may get lost in the Ducks defense, Shannon is turning plenty of heads in Anaheim camp. The winger-turned-defenseman is coming off an 86-point (27g, 59a) campaign in the AHL last season, as well as 22 points (11g, 11a) in the playoffs last season.

A lot of stat sites have been confusing our Shanny with the 6-2 Gorillas d-man, who actually just retired. It sounds like this site actually COMBINED them. rolleyes.gif

CBS Sportsline had the wrong one, but I just checked and now they've got our little guy. And, of course, I take full responsibility for the correction....I'm getting really good at this complaining about inaccuracies thing. wink.gif

You keep complaining, Aeryn, and then maybe these people who claim to be 'professional journalists' will bother to do a bit more research before writing things that are blatently untrue. What have we had so far? Scotty is 'a mere 28', Bryz has been awarded the starters position for the upcoming season, Shanny is a 6-2 defenceman, and I am sure there was something completely ridiculous about Sami too, though I lose track of all the stupid things these ignorant people write.

Can you imagine if this level of inaccuracy was allowed in other professions? Buildings would fall down, road signs would lead in the wrong directions, surgeons would start missing key organs! It is almost criminal that they are allowed to get away with printing such rubbish! rolleyes.gif

A two-year old article from BC with some nice background on the new Duck.

Shannon: Eyes Up

IPB Image
QUOTE
In nearly every action photo of Ryan Shannon you can notice two things. First, his eyes are always looking ahead of him. No matter the location of the puck, an opposing defender or himself on the ice, the forward always plays with his head up. Second is his size.

Oooooh. I really like that article. And I hope we keep him up for a quite regular time. He's very valuable, and let's not risk him on waivers...

Why would he be risked on waivers? He wouldnt have to pass through them if he is sent down.

"If I am in the lineup that night, it'll be a dream come true," Shannon said. "It really hasn't hit me yet."

"You can't take anything for granted," O'Brien said. "It's awesome that I made it out of camp, but you can't stop working for not even one second. It's a business up here and you have to treat it like that."

Well, I didn't have the heart to say that Eric's number is probably more accurate. blush.gif

But, other guys on the roster get away with little white lies so Shanny should too. biggrin.gif

EDIT: I called Eric on this yesterday...he laughed and said, "Okay.....I'm 5'9"." I laughed and pointed out that other guys on the roster get away with it. lol_1.gif

Shannon wings it with Anaheim Ducks, NHL debut vs. Kings Oct. 6
QUOTE
Ryan Shannon’s made it.

He’s hit the big time — at last? Hardly. It’s a lot more like he’s hit the big time, National Hockey League-style, real fast.

.......

After the game, the last of pre-season, guys were pulled aside. And, as Ryan Shannon told his dad, on Sunday morning ‘they were (put) on a plane — they’re gone...I’m still here.’
