The Cincinnati Railraider's AHL franchise (formerly the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks) has been sold to Windsor, Ontario's Ice Track Corporation, which plans to field a team at Tecumsah by 2008.

The Railraiders tried unsuccessfully earlier this year to generate enough pre-season sales to get an AHL team on the ice again in Cincinnati, in the CIncinnati Gardens, which is an exact copy ot the original Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, minus the second deck.

This is a sad day for us Hockey fans in Cincinnati, but the city just doesn't seem to have a big enough fan base to support high level hockey.

Professional hockey began in Cincinnati in 1949 with the Cincinnati Mohawks of the AHL, the farm team of the Montreal Canadiens (winning five Turner Cupes)! THe AHL Cincinnati Swords was the farm team of the Buffalo Sabres for a few years in the 1970's, including winning a Calder CUp trophy one year. The Cincinnati Stingers if the old WHL were in Cincinnati for a while, with Rick Dudley, who had previously played for the Swords (and the Sabres).

I remember hearing that Cincinnati was more of a IHL town than AHL. Maybe the Cincinnati fans just prefer the IHL? I've heard the same about Long Beach and Cleveland fans too. Is that right?
