The Chicago Daily Herald reports that the Blackhawks are talking to the Washington Capitals about acquiring the first overall selection in the 2004 NHL Draft.

Assistant general manager Dale Tallon admitted to the paper on Thursday that the Hawks are 'aggressively' talking to the Capitals about acquiring the No. 1 pick and turning it into Russian phenom Alexander Ovechkin.

"We're trying to make every effort to get the first pick," Tallon told the Herald. "We're talking to Washington and we're talking to them aggressively. I know a few teams are trying. This is a franchise-type player we're talking about here."

Capitals GM George McPhee said earlier this week that he had yet to make up his mind on how to use the first pick on June 26 in Raleigh, N.C.

McPhee told NHL.com he still wanted to interview Evgeni Malkin, the other Russian forward considered a top prospect.

Oh yeah I've heard a report from MTv or MTv 2 that when they showed the Anna Kournikova Biography, they said that Fedorov was part of the Russian Mafia and concluded that he was going to murder some hockey players and leave the USA and play for Moscow Dynamo.

:bye: Naw..I believe you. I've even seen interviews with Feds where he talks about the Russian Mafia rumors......so who knows. There was the story by the former "CIA Operative" or who ever he was, who now is Ozolinsh and Irbe and Weeks agent about all the trouble with Russian players having to pay the Russian Mafia in order to leave Russia and how some of them still have to pay some of their salary to the Russian mob. That stuff is true Reb, it's not just idle gossip, the Russian mob is a nasty lot who run most of Russia and are even here, there is no disputing that!!! There have been enough storied from some of the hockey clubs who don't want to touch some of the Russian players because of their ties to the RM.....

You, see my father still works in the KGB and I've never seen him in my entire life so my mother broke up with him, so me and my mother are living in Connecticut, we escaped from the Communists. On the subject then, when it was the Soviet Times Russian players never could leave the Soviet Union, I dont know why, but two players left Igor Larionov, and Alex Mogilny. In a couple of years the KGB called them, and immedieatly told them to come back to Russia, in other hands they were very very very luck to escape Mother Russia. So what I'm telling is the truth there are and there is Russian Mafias that keep onto there hockey players. I know where there is a place of them Brighton Beach, New York it's very scary down there. As of my saying hockey clubs dont even want to touch the players that are connected to the Russian Mafia.

I don't think he thinks it was true he just is saying it is what was stated in an MTV segment....I certainly don't believe it and of course the source isn't the most reliable when covering NHL players...it is best for rap and hip-hop and all that teenage stuff. I wouldn't put too much into such reports.
