VANCOUVER (CP) - Vancouver Canucks star Todd Bertuzzi was charged Thursday with assault causing bodily harm for his on-ice attack on Colorado Avalanche player Steve Moore that left Moore with neck injuries.

The charges were announced by the criminal justice branch of the Ministry of the Attorney General after an investigation that lasted four months.

The attack was witnessed by over 18,000 people at the arena and has been shown repeatedly in television clips broadcast across North America and Europe.

Bertuzzi has been ordered to appear in provincial court July 9.

That's good. But he'll get off easy.

How's Moore, anyway?

:beat: From the sound of the story, Moore is not doing that well. but at least he is alive. Sounds like he got some major damage. Doubt he will ever play again. But what do I know other than what I've gone through, and he is younger and there is better medical care available now!! Poor thing!! :bye:

Two careers shattered????

Gee really, where did you hear this? The last report was that he was healing up, and time would tell how the neck injury would be. I haven't seen any report. Do tell, and I'll love to go read it. wink.gif

:uh: Having as much nerve damage as I do, it's not that easy to go on with. Believe me when I say that is something that can inhibit your whole life and activity level. The latest medications I've been put on are just for the nerve damage and while they help, they don't return things to "normal". Miss just one pill and it's hell all over again.
I have some of my nerve damage in the neck and it's from there that the effect is the strongest on the brain, it can lead to seizures, something I almost had twice. It is not fun, nor is it easy and I don't know how well nerves regenerat or if they can in all cases!!!

Oh, oops, yeah Veca, you're right, the article says the sky is falling in, er I mean about his injuries. At an Avs game near the end of the season, he looked great, albeit, with a neck brace. And, absolutely, who knows the permanent extent of the neck injury. But, ALL of his "severe" facial lacerations were gone, he looked like a male model. So, at least that part healed up nicely. They might wnat to update THAT part of the story. Well, only time will tell, adn beyond that, I'm keeping my mouth shut as to stay outta trouble around here. Ask Mallard and me on Saturday.

Here is a little more info on Moore, Veca. It says he was NOT wearing the "collar" during the playoffs.

:beat: I find if I wear my neck brace, at times it seems to cause me more pain than without it, depends on what I'm doing.
Again, I just go by the first story and by my own experiences.......I know that in person, for years, no one wanted to believe the hell I was going through, even or more so the doctors because for years I looked very strong and had no visible damage.
I don't judge any book by it's cover any more. I have been through too much to do so. I don't want to do to another what has been done to me, that would be hypocritical and since I am so much already, I'll try and avoid that!

Now, as for Todzzila, I think enough is enough. I don't know if there is a need to punish him beyond what he has had already. Living with what he did, the suspension and realization that HE may have cost his team the Cup is in MHO, enough.
Let's just move on.

Why now? Why not charge him with assault in, I don't know, March or April? The incident happened three months ago! I don't get why they waited to charge him.

SC, you know the looooooooong arm of the law.
Have to be careful with the investigation.
Can not have every I dotted and every T crossed, ya know.
But then, that only works for people with money.
Not for us little people who have none. dry.gif

My opinion is, let's leave it on the ice. What he did was stupid, but I don't think it's any worse than a pitcher throwing a fastball at someone's head -- either one could be debilitating for the long-term or even fatal. And let's look at the facts -- Bertuzzi's suspension, it can be argued, could have cost the Canucks a trip to the Stanley Cup (it took Calgary 7 games and OT in game 7 to knock out the Canucks in the first round -- pretty easy to say Bertuzzi would have been the difference for Vancouver to win), and the resulting effects included the firing of Brian Burke (which may or may not have happened otherwise). Bertuzzi's paid for this a lot -- let's end it now. No need for any charges or further suspensions. Let him play in the World Cup, drop the charges, and move on -- I guarantee Bert won't ever do anything like this again -- he seems genuinely to feel bad about the whole thing.

I too agree with SC, WHY NOW? why not when it happened or shortly thereafter it really does seem a bit late. But it was a pretty horrible incident and Moore will most likely not play again. I still can't understand why Bertuzzi did it...retaliation is one thing but this was absurd. It is a sad thing.

I still say that if the Avs had gone to round 4, surprise!!!!!  Guess who would hvae been dressed and playing.  I sincerely believe Moore will "live through this" and be fine.  Still, a bad, veddy veddy bad thing for Bertuzzi to do.  But, like NHLERs don't ram someone's head into the boards every damn game??  What Bertuzzi did was inexcusable, I'll give you that, but I wish the world would build a bridge and get over it already.  Or send him to the electric chair already, but let's move on.

:uh: :beat: :uh: Electric Chair????? :rl: :rl:

towel.gif towel.gif Great points and yes!! Enough already and let ALL of us just move on!! Did the legal process have to wait for the Cup run to be over with before they could proceed??? It's a joke.

I re-read the story(I'm old and forget) and realized this was taking place in oh!CANADA, silly me, how could life proceed before the cup run was over... yes.gif

I hope they charge Boughner for his attack on Cheechoo in the playoffs cause it was the EXACT same thing. Lets also start charging pitchers who hit the batter with pitches and football players for crack back blocks and clips.
EVERYTHING they do in Pro sports would be ILLEGAL if they were normal citizens doing that to other normal citizens. They may as well just put courthouses in the arenas and stadiums all over North America.

I also am confused by this....Are you asking why Bertuzzi did this? Then yes I believe it is his own fault for attacking Moore. Yes he is paying for it.
