Hasek to sign with Ottawa and Lalime is on his way out (to Colorado?):
"League sources said last night that the Senators have all but worked out a deal with Hasek, and are expected to announce his signing July 1 -- the day the 39-year-old goalie becomes an unrestricted free agent and can walk away from the Red Wings."

At 39, this has to be his last season. He should have retired when he won the cup and never returned

Hasek should stay retired go back where he came from, at least coach a hockey team, and wait for a couple of years to enter the hockey hall of fame.

Hasek to Ottawa...what a risk they are taking...he gets injured and the Sens could be in for a long season...but if the gamble works they could be very tough in the East.

First of all, how can they have worked out a deal with him when they aren't allowed to negotiate with him until July 1st? Sounds like tampering to me.
Second, what are they thinking? He will turn 40 this coming season, and if the lockout happens and wipes out the year, he will be 41 in the 2005-2006 season. A 41-year old goalie that has played just 14 games in the last three years? That's what the Senators want instead of Lalime? Very odd.

I believe the Red Wings allowed other teams (in the East only?) to talk to him because they were not going to sign him anyway.
I agree that this is a very strange deal and they're taking a huge gamble. Unfortunately, if you follow the media in hockey crazy Ottawa or if you read the messages from the fans on the boards, it was clear that there was no way in hell that they wanted him back. He and Martin are the scapegoats for their first round exit in the playoffs.
