thats very strange
hopefully he gets better

"but the 6-foot-3, 235-pounder was suspended for the remainder of the season and the playoffs for throwing a net at an opposing goalie and making a spectacle of himself in a game about a month ago. "

I just read on ESPN.com that Garrett Brunett, who played the enforcer role for the ducks during the 2003 run is in a coma after being jumped outside of a club in Vancouver. I think he also played for the stars for a bit. Sad.

Anyway, Go Ducks. goducks1ux5.gif

Wow! Why hasn't anything been reported before now? That is a pretty long time to be in a coma, too.

I wish him a complete and full recovery. Wow.....

Met Garrett in Cincy with the Cincy MD. Very nice guy. Easy to talk to. He had as personal friends several professional wrestlers. Not a lot of hockey skills, but could pull his own weight in a fight! Was very surprised when Anaheim signed him and kept him there!! From a message from a reported family friend on hockeyfights.com, it sounds very serious indeed - on life support for the last 16 days. smile.gif

Wish the Best to Garrett, and his family.

Former NHL player Garrett Burnett is in a coma in a Vancouver hospital, The Hockey News reported Thursday.

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images
Burnett had one goal, two assists and 184 penalty minutes with the Ducks in 2003-04.
Burnett, who played 39 games with the Anaheim Ducks in 2003-04 and four games for the Summum Chiefs of the Quebec-based North American Hockey League this season, has reportedly been in a coma since Dec. 26, when he was assaulted outside a nightclub in North Delta, British Columbia.

According to The Hockey News, Burnett and a group of friends were involved in a dispute with another group inside the suburban Vancouver club. Both groups were asked to leave; when Burnett's group left the club, the other group was waiting outside and allegedly assaulted them. Police said Burnett was "severely" hit in the head during the altercation.

"We are treating this very seriously," acting Sgt. Wave Steinwand of the Delta Police Department told The Hockey News. "He's still in a coma and could go either way."

Steinwand said that police have reviewed video and have several suspects in mind but have yet to charge anyone.

Burnett was suspended for the rest of this season and the playoffs for throwing a net at a goalie and being involved in a brawl during a Dec. 17 game. The Chiefs reportedly learned of Burnett's condition after team president Pierre Rochefort, who tried to reach Burnett several times during the holiday season, received a call from Burnett's father saying that the player was in a coma.

Burnett has spent most of his career in the minor leagues, splitting time between the ECHL Phoenix Roadrunners and the AHL Iowa Stars last season. He signed as a free agent with the San Jose Sharks in 1998, the Ducks in 2003 and Dallas in 2005, but he's not under contract with any NHL team.

my bad but you do realize that this is a primary reason why this board doesn't really get off the ground. You guys freak out if someone double posts by mistake or posts something in the wrong place. Kind of takes away from the fun.

Damn! This is not the kind of thing I enjoy reading about former Ducks. I really hope that Garrett continues to fight. This is one battle that he can't afford to give up on. Give it your best effort, man, give it your best.

Bigserg's point, I believe, was basically that the mods are sometimes a bit quick to be rude and move topics around and such. As he said, I can see why it (at times) takes away from the fun. The fun being enjoying the message board.

The replies he's received in this thread perfectly shows how rude some people can be and I imagine people will now respond to me rudely.

I think, for some, the sarcastic responses and not treating his statement seriously could be taken as rude by the original poster. Whether people meant to be come off as rude or not, the fact is that person might feel rudely responded to.

I know I've felt that way many times here.

Just giving my two cents.
