Red Wings sign Draper

Kris Draper made $1.45 million last season.

Sportsnet.ca -- With free agency looming just around the corner, the Detroit Red Wings have avoided the risk of losing one of their core players, signing forward Kris Draper to a multi-year deal.

Draper has agreed to terms with the Detroit on a four-year, $11.2 million contract which includes a no trade clause.

Draper is coming off the best season of his career. He scored 24 goals, won the Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward and was named to Team Canada for the World Cup of Hockey.

good news for the Red Wings who are in search of reshaping their team, but were worried they may lose him
