Across Canada:
The Latest from Montreal
The Canadiens practiced at the Verdun Arena on Friday, mostly doing skate and shooting drills. No lines were revealed for their match-up against the Hurricanes on Saturday night. Alex Kovalev arrived with just five minutes to go in practice, fully attired, but did not do any shooting. He stretched and skated laps on his own. Coach Guy Carbonneau has not decided on his starting goaltender yet. It could be 21-year-old Jaroslav Halak who's been putting up impressive numbers in the AHL. Tests are being done to determine if there is a tear involved in Cristobal Huet's hamstring injury. Craig Rivet underwent X-rays to his chest to see if there is any residue of pneumonia. Carbonneau said his lungs are looking good, though Rivet still easily suffers from fatigue. - TSN
The Latest on the Flames Practice Lines
Dion Phaneuf and Jarome Iginla did not take part in practice on Friday, as both players chose to have an off ice work out. - TSN
Forwards
Tanguay - Conroy - Ritchie
Huselius - Langkow - Moss
Primeau - Lombardi - Amonte
Friesen - Yelle - Nilson
Defence
Hamrlik - Zyuzin
Regehr - Stuart
Giordano - Warrener
Around The League:
The Latest from Boston
Patrice Bergeron (lower body injury) did not play. Bergeron was injured in the first period, then played briefly in the second period, of a 3-0 win over the Oilers Tuesday. Bergeron could return for tomorrow's game at Buffalo - Boston Globe
The Latest from Buffalo
Sabres' winger Maxim Afinogenov fell on his wrist last night breaking his scaphoid bone in his shooting wrist. Afinogenov has 57 points, a plus-17 rating, and 66 PIM in 53 games this season. He was on pace for best season of his career, instead he will miss the majority if not all of the remaining games in the season. - Buffalo News
The Latest from Carolina
Erik Cole remains day-to-day with a hip pointer he suffered a week ago against the Boston Bruins. The Hurricanes have lost 207 man-games to injury this season-a number that will continue to grow with Thursday's injuries to Justin Williams ("upper body") and Bret Hedican (concussion). - News Observer
The Latest from Colorado
Marek Svatos was a healthy scratch on Thursday. It was the second game in a row that Svatos found himself in the press box. Brad May took Svatos' place on the second line with Paul Stastny and Milan Hedjuk and had two assists in his seasonal debut. - Denver Post
The Latest from Dallas
Coach Dave Tippett still hasn't decided which goaltender will be in net on Sunday when Dallas plays San Jose. Marty Turco has been pulled in his last two starts, playing a total of only 38 minutes. Mike Smith has been playing very well, allowing Tippett the option of not rushing to get Turco back in the lineup. - Dallas Morning News
The Latest from Detroit
Mikael Samuelsson has not played since Jan. 20 as he suffered a broken foot. He should have been ready to return to action by now but aggravated the broken foot and is still yet to skate - Detroit News
The Latest from Nashville
The Predators play on Friday in St. Louis, but it is more likely that Peter Forsberg will start in Nashville against Minnesota on Saturday. It has yet to be determined where Forsberg will play and coach Barry Trotz wants to talk to him first, but he could very well center Scott Hartnell and Alexander Radulov, giving the Predators a starting nine forwards that would be unmatched in the current NHL. Chris Mason will get the start in goal on Friday when Nashville takes on St. Louis. Tomas Vokoun will get the start on Saturday when Nashville entertains Minnesota. - Nashville Tennessean
The Latest from New Jersey
Already missing checking center John Madden with a facial cut and defenseman Colin White with an unspecified upper body injury, the Devils lost top goal-scorer Brian Gionta last night with a groin pull that could put him out of action for a few games. - Newark Star Ledger
The Latest from New York Rangers
Winger Pascal Dupuis will make his Ranger debut tonight against the Hurricanes. He has been out for the past week with a hand injury. - New York Daily News.
Goaltender Kevin Weekes has been placed on injured reserve after suffering a strained quadricept muscle in practice on Tuesday. To replace Weekes on the roster, the Rangers recalled goaltender Stephen Valiquette from Hartford of the American Hockey League. - TSN
The Latest from Phoenix
Ed Jovanovski injured his elbow during Tuesday's game and did not play on Thursday. While the elbow injury kept him out of action on Thursday, a more pressing problem is Jovanovski's groin. "I'm not too sure what we're going to do with him," coach Wayne Gretzky said. "He's got an injury that's not getting any better, and we've got to take care of that and make sure it gets better." If the groin problem is as bad as the team thinks it could be, Jovanovski could be out indefinitely. - Arizona Republic

Heh heh heh. I'm glad the Ducks weren't the only ones going through this kind of thing.
On top of that, the Preds lose too. Double

There are some who believe Edmonton forward Ryan Smyth broke into a big smile when Phoenix captain Shane Doan signed a lucrative contract extension with his team this week. Since Doan got nearly $23 million for five years because he's considered the face of the Coyotes, they presume the bar has become even higher for the Oilers when it comes to Smyth.
