LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Kings cut ties to a pair of injury-plagued players Wednesday as they did not tender qualifying offers to center Jason Allison and right wing Adam Deadmarsh, making the pair unrestricted free agents.
Allison and Deadmarsh are two of six players Los Angeles made unrestricted free agents. The Kings also did not tender qualifying offers to right wings Anson Carter and Brad Chartrand, defenseman Maxim Kuznetsov and goaltender Mathieu Chouinard.
Both Allison and Deadmarsh missed the entire 2003-04 season recovering from potential career-ending head injuries.
Acquired from the Boston Bruins in October 2001, Allison collected 19 goals and 55 assists in 73 games in 2001-02. But in 2002-03, he was limited to just 26 games due to a sprained right knee, hip flexor and post-concussion syndrome.
In 486 career games with the Washington Capitals, Bruins and Kings, the 29-year-old Allison has totaled 137 goals and 288 assists.
Acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in the February 2001 deal involving defenseman Rob Blake, Deadmarsh had 29 goals and 33 assists in 76 games during the 2001-02 season. But after scoring nine goals in his first 15 games of 2002-03, Deadmarsh sustained a concussion on November 12, 2002 in Toronto that kept him out for nine games.
After returning on December 7 and playing five games, he had his season cut short due to post-concussion symptoms.
Carter, who played with Allison in Boston, was acquired from Washington on March 8 for right wing Jared Aulin. But in 15 games for Los Angeles, he managed just one assist and was a minus-5.
In 529 games for Washington, Boston, Edmonton, the New York Rangers and Kings, the 30-year-old Carter has collected 158 goals and 180 assists.
The Kings also made qualifying offers to 13 players, including centers Ian Laperriere, Eric Belanger and Sean Avery and defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky.
Last season, Laperriere scored 10 goals and 12 assists in 62 games. He finished his eighth full season with the Kings and scored 10 goals for just the second time in his 10-year career.
In 694 games with the St. Louis Blues, Rangers and Kings, the 30-year-old has totaled 78 goals, 126 assists and 1,242 penalty minutes.
A fourth-round pick of the Kings in 1996, Belanger missed just one game and finished with 13 goals and a career-high 20 assists. In 258 career games, the 26-year-old has collected 46 goals and 67 assists.
Avery led the league with 261 penalty minutes but also finished with nine goals and 19 assists in 76 games last season. Acquired in March 2003 from the Detroit Red Wings, the 24-year-old Avery has totaled 17 goals and 30 assists while accumulating 482 penalty minutes in 163 career games.
In 2003-04, Visnovsky was limited to 58 games and collected eight goals and 21 assists. In 268 NHL contests, the27-year-old Slovakian has totaled 27 goals and 86 assists.
Los Angeles also tendered qualifying offers to centers Scott Barney and Steve Kelly, left wings Noah Clarke, Jeff Cowan and Ryan Flinn and defensemen Joe Corvo, Bryan Muir, Joe Rullier and Tomas Zizka.
