Ok! This question has been on my mind and I have no clue where to get it from. Seeing how goalies aren't credited for letting in the goals in a shootout, and it in no way effects their stats, if the game goes to a shootout and neither goalie has let in a goal through regulation or OT, do they get credited for a shutout still? Even though at the end, there is a 'goal' credited to one team?
I would think it would be a shutout, because no goalie is credited for allowing a goal, but then again, one team technically did score. Does anyone know the answer?
SO/SO Question...

I'm pretty sure that both goalies get a shutout added to their stats, but I'm not positive.

If no goals are allowed in regulation or OT it is considered a shutout.
In Dov Grumet-Morris' loss against Hartford he was awarded the Shutout even though the team lost 1-0 in a SO

I don't believe this is entirely correct. The goalie is credited with a "loss" on their stats, IIRC.
I meant the goal itself isn't counted as a goal against. They are still credited with an OT loss. Sorry, should have been more clear on that

Are you trying to bait me on the shootout?
No? Alright, I'll take it.
The shootout is total BS. Can you imagine a tie baseball game. After nine innings, they play the 10th, but with no outfield. If it's still tied, the bullpen coaches come in to throw pitches for a homerun derby.
Right, see.
Back on topic: the reason the stats don't count is because the only way the shootout could gain enough support to be approved was to make it as meaningless as possible.
Unfortunately, the NHL now has some games worth 2 points (ie: Boston and Colorado tonight) and some that are worth 3 (Nashville and Detroit tonight).
Mucho estupido!
Phew, I feel better now.
(and none of it directed at you Duckette... just thanks for letting me vent).
