They had a ridiculous season and were only 1 point away from being tried with Swift Current.

Everett Silvertips vs. Spokane Chiefs, 2:0 -Spokane isn't doing anyone any favors by getting rolled over by Everett!
Tri-City Americans vs. Seattle Thunderbirds, 1:1
Vancouver Giants vs. Chilliwack Bruins, 1:1 -Bruins are giving the Giants fits in this series, Vancouver won game one, but had to take it to OT to do it. Chilliwack beat them 3-1 Saturday night. It would be a HUGE upset if the Bruins can pull off this series!
Kamloops Blazers vs. Prince George Cougars 0:2 -so much for home ice advantage!
Medicine Hat Tigers vs. Red Deer Rebels, 1:1
Kootenay Ice vs. Calgary Hitmen, 1:1
Brandon Wheat Kings vs. Prince Albert Raiders, 2:0
Regina Pats vs. Swift Current Broncos, 1:1
Our road trip to Tri-Cities was very enlightening...first of all, it's in the middle of nowhere. Once you get over the Cascades, eastern Washington is pretty much a desert wasteland. Caduck and I saw an honest to God tumbleweed blowing across the road! I kept expecting to round the next hill and find a city somewhere, but the Toyota Center is pretty much in the middle of a scrubby plain. Nice building though. The people were perfectly hospitable until they had two periods worth of beer downed and were leading 2-1. Then some of the fans near us got ugly and we had to move to a section with more TBirds fans in it. I'm not entirely sure I approved of all the behavior over there either, but at least we were amongst friends! All in all, not worth driving 3 hours there and back I'd say. It made me really grateful to have trees on our side of the mountains though!
I still don't have a good feel for this series. Carey Price is a good goalie, and seems to get better as the games go on, but he's not quite the God everyone makes him out to be. Yeomans is just as good, but Price was the hero of the World Junior team, MVP, blah blah blah. The 'Birds just have to get in close and get thier sticks on more rebounds, because he sure leaves a lot of juicy ones. We never seem to be in the right place to take advantage of that though. He's beatable but we have to work harder. It could go either way at this point and I think most games will be low scoring affairs. I'm hoping home ice is good to Seattle on Tues/Weds!!

Tri-City Americans vs. Seattle Thunderbirds, 3:1
Vancouver Giants vs. Chilliwack Bruins, 3:1
Kamloops Blazers vs. Prince George Cougars, 0:4
Medicine Hat Tigers vs. Red Deer Rebels, 2:2
Kootenay Ice vs. Calgary Hitmen, 1:2
Brandon Wheat Kings vs. Prince Albert Raiders, 2:1
Regina Pats vs. Swift Current Broncos, 3:1
Derek Yeomans continues to show who is the better goalie by posting his second shutout of the series...and as a matter of fact leads all the playoff goalies in GAA/SV%. Despite all his hype, Price is proving beatable. And that was what I was the most worried about with this Tri team. The teams are so evenly matched that the games have been great ones. I don't think we'll close them out on Friday though...I have a feeling this will go to six.
Swift and Chilliwack are on the ropes...after taking it to the Giants in the first two games, the Bruins have been soundly whupped in the last two by 1-5, 0-5 scores. Ouch! Cougars have dispatched the Blazers in four in an upset win. Three of the games in that series went to OT but Kamloops just couldn't do it. Prince George really came on at the end of the season despite landing in 3rd place. Spokane has managed to tie up Everett, and you know who I'm rooting for there!!

Friday night in Kennewick (the one of the Tri-Cities where the Ams actually play) the Americans had a 4-1 lead going into the third period and it looked like game six was a certainty...until Seattle surged back and tied the game with 6 seconds left. (Caduck went nutz.) Tri went on to win it in overtime, but the momentum stayed on our side into the next game in Seattle. About two minutes into game six, Tri defenceman Tyler Schmidt scored into his own net on a botched clearing attempt, and that set the tone for the rest of the night. The Ams never quite regained their composure. They were behind 6-0 after two periods following an Aaron Gagnon hat trick, and the leagues best goalie in the regular season, Corey Price, was yanked for the third. The final score ended up 7-2,and the TBirds advance to the next round!
Sadly, Spokane fell to Everett on Sunday. They put up a good fight, but penalties were their downfall. I was listening to the game on the Spokane station and thier radio guy was shockingly petulant over the perceived bad reffing and the diving...the reffing has been questionable for sure and the 'Tips have been know to dive, but he was going off. Very unprofessional.
So now the 'Birds play Vancouver and Everett plays Prince George. We are just waiting for the east to finish up. I don't know when the second round games are, but Caduck and I are planning to get up to Van if either of the games are on the weekend.

This is gonna be a tough series too...Vancouver has an awesome team. This is their goaltender's first playoffs though, whereas ours has already won the Memorial Cup...I'm hoping experience will trump youth in this instance. Caduck and I will be going to game two up north on Saturday. Mmmmm...Tim Horton's....

Caduck and I are road tripping to Vancouver this afternoon to catch games 1 and 2 today and Saturday. I'm very nervous about these games!

Both games were givng me fits because I'm just so nervous playing the Giants. They have a big dangerous team and have been at the top of the standings all year. Their defense is all but impenetrable. We haven't won a game in their building all year. On Friday, we toughed it out with them and got the win in overtime. It was a great game, very exciting! T-birds defeat Vancouver in OT
Saturday night we came out a little flat...Vancouver seemed to have the boys back on their heels. Despite outshooting us 39-23, they didn't crush us totally though...we cut the lead down to one in the third period, but an empty net goal for the Giants sealed the deal 3-1. Giants Down T-Birds In Game 2
Back at home tonight and tomorrow...and here is where everybody else stands:
Everett Silvertips vs Prince George Cougars, 2:0 C'mon PG!!
Vancouver Giants vs Seattle Thunderbirds, 1:1
Medicine Hat Tigers vs Regina Pats, 2:0 The Tigers won last night's game 7-2...ouch!
Brandon Wheat Kings vs Calgary Hitmen, 2:0
Looks like the TBirds are the only team to win on the road so far...

At least Prince George beat Everett yesterday despite losing their captain to a broken ankle. Small silver lining there.

Ya know Reb...the last couple of Portland/Seattle games there has been no fish-flinging...could the grand traditiion have died?
Congrats for going as far as you have. I know Vancouver is scary good but I hope your lads can give you at least another day to savor the sweet smell of victory.

Next season should be an interesting one...Portland and Seattle have a bunch of talented young 'uns this season that will be a year older and wiser next season, I expect them to be more competitive teams. Everett seems to be positioned well as usual, they always manage to assemble a good mix of both younger and older players so the roster isn't shot to pieces when their core players graduate. Tri will be losing Price since he's signed with Montreal, and he was really the only thing special about the team, I expect them to struggle. Spokane is a bit of a question mark for me.
Oh, yeah, and I guess I kinda committed to updating the standings!
Everett Silvertips vs Prince George Cougars, 2:3 PG is now up a game on Everett, hooray!
Vancouver Giants vs Seattle Thunderbirds, 4:1
Medicine Hat Tigers vs Regina Pats, 4:0 Pats never even got a game in...
Brandon Wheat Kings vs Calgary Hitmen 2:3
