Surprising results in AIHL 2007 Season Openers
NHL.com Apr 16, 2007, 12:22 PM EDT
For the first time in its history, Melbourne Ice has won both games of its season-opener double-header. The Ice convincingly defeated the Adelaide Avalanche 6-1 in the Australian Ice Hockey League season opener in Melbourne on Saturday. On Sunday, Adelaide was eager to reverse the results and very nearly did, leading Melbourne 4-3 with 9 minutes to go in the third. At 8.54 remaining, Melbourne evened and with 5.11 left on the clock, Jeff Street scored Melbourne's fifth, giving the Ice a narrow victory.
