After being held without a power play goal in their first 20 attempts of the series, the Aces followed up their overtime game-winner on Friday with the game’s first goal on Saturday, as Talbot scored the first of his two from between the circles after a cross-ice pass from Matt Shasby at 6:02 of the opening frame. Andrew Ianiero scored Bakersfield’s third, and final, goal of the series six minutes later, leaving the score deadlocked at 1-1 after the first 20 minutes.
Talbot’s second goal came on a backhander in the slot after Barrett Heisten’s centering pass caromed off the side of the net four and a half minutes into the second period. The Condors out-shot Alaska 14-6 in the middle frame and 33-25 for the game, but never got the equalizer, failing to score on any of their five power play chances Saturday to finish 0-for-30 in the series. Olivier Filion’s empty-netter with one minute to play sealed Bakersfield’s fate and secured a third consecutive trip to the ECHL Final Four for the Aces. Alaska now awaits the winner of the Idaho-Las Vegas series, with the Steelheads leading three games to two heading into tomorrow’s Game Six in Boise. Game Seven, if necessary, would be played in Las Vegas Monday.
