buhahaha is anybody shocked? He sucked. All he could say was "They're terrible!" or "They were good!" I'm sure Mooseduck could have given a better analysis biggrin.gif

This saddens me because I actually did like Bret. You know, before he made all those terrible remarks...but you know, he was sorry and even picked the Ducks to win. You have to give him some leeway here. He was right in that Ducks didn't play the best game, but they did somehow manage to win. I mean, Ferraro said the same thing about Anaheim and he didn't get all jumped on...
Also, it was Bret's old team. Give him a break LOL.

That's sad, he really didn't do too well, but he was improving...

I don't think he was fired for calling the Ducks out. They really were terrible and had no business winning that game. Brett just isn't very good at that kind of thing. NBC should have hired Brian Hayward. He really knows how to analyze objectively.

Versus needs to get rid of that other Melrose guy, and the big guy with the small face. After that, the NHL's commentary is saved.

Who? Doc Emrick and Eddie Olcyck?
But first the NHL should give the boot to the short, frumpy guy ---- Mr. Buttman!!! crazy.gif

Did anyone notice before the playoffs started, and during, Jeremy Roenick picked the Ducks to win all the way?

He was very confident.

Hayward is the biggest homer ever...

despite his foot-in-mouth disease, I liked Hull. Maybe if I had to endure a steady diet,I would be less pleasant, but hey, gosh knows,he was a real original. and never a dull moment with the Brettster!!! He was always good for a quoteor a sound bite, but lord knows,a little bit of him went an awful long way!!! Kinda like jalapeno!! dry.gif dry.gif And Haysie is very intelligent and knowlegdable about the game!! smile.gif smile.gif

No, keep Emrick, but get rid of the guys on the intermission show. Just keep the host. The other two are dumb.

...I liked Hull. He made things intersting. But yeah, I agree, get rid of Englbom. And I liked it better when Olcyck did the intermission show.

Agreed about the Olcyck part. At least we didn't have to listen to him so much.

tongue.gif Hazy is a homer but he knows the game so well. Didn't he do the Olympics on NBC? I just always feel like he really knows what he's talking about and not just BSing like A LOT of these other guys.

Anyway I will miss Brett Hull and that was stupid for them to get rid of him. He WAS entertaining to say the least. He got people talking. Why did they fire him? Dumb.

The NHL needs Gary Thorne back to re-unite with Bill Clement. Both of them were stellar commentators when they did the games back in the day. I have no clue why Thorne now is commentating MLB games and NCAA College baseball.

Because he is also the announcer for the Baltimore Orioles and does the major events with ESPN. He also did some college football during the season.

He is a very versitaile (sp?) broadcaster

he and Melrose also did the Frozen Four this year

he is a good announcer maybe a second or two behind the play but you can tell he has passion for the game by the way he calls it.

Yeah I really enjoyed his call of the UCI vs CSF baseball game today. 13 innings. The throw to the plate and out to save the game for Fullerton only to give up the Game-Winning run on the very next at-bat. and I quote "OH MERCY! WHAT A PLAY! SAVES THE GAME....AND ITS OVER! UCI GETS ITS FIRST COLLEGE WORLD SERIES WIN!"

love his coverage

oh and to Brett Hull
Neener neener poo poo! You had it coming Hull. Booooo YOU SUCKED! smile.gif

Gary Thorne became the voice of U.S. hockey (now I think Doc Emerick holds that title) and every time I hear him I think of the good old days of the NHL. But, with that said, Thorne really is a terrible play-by-play announcer. He frequently calls guys by different names and refers to one team as the other. For me, its rather obnoxious. Though, I'd love to see Thorne again doing NHL games b/c that would mean the game is back on ESPN.

Fire Versus/NBC!!!!!! tomatomelrose.gif
