Have any of you guys heard of this boy? He's 16 years old, and everyone is nuts about him. Scouts from all over are at his games, and Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and other NHLers are praising him, too. I read an article about him in ESPN's (I know... I know, but this one's actually good) latest magazine issue. I didn't believe it at first when my b/f told me about him. Could this be true?? Someone so young and so talented, that people actually truly believe he could be the next Wayne Gretzky, or even better than THE Wayne Gretzky?? That's just nuts, but... you gotta go check the magazine out. I got goosebumps just reading about him. Anaheim scouts need to jump on him right away. This could change everything.

Crosby is more talented than Ovechkin. He had a very good season in the WHl,he scored as a rookie 137 points,18 more than the next scorer. But I don't think, that he will break Gretzkys records, because the game has changed a lot since the 80s.

Maybe we should enjoy and applaud the talent we have on the ice or the boards or the fields today before getting all in a twist over the "maybabies" of tomorrow.

I don't know, that's just my opinion. rolleyes.gif

Did not like seeing him in a Kings Jersey at that development camp though.

Actually, Crosby played for Rimouski of the QMJHL, where he had an amazing 135 points in just 59 games (54-81--135) as a 16-year-old rookie, easily leading the Q in scoring.

There's lots of rumors of the WHA trying to land Crosby next season -- the Toronto Toros hold his rights -- makes sense to me. He'd be making the $5 million exception most likely, and would still enter the NHL the following year (if the NHL survives it's suicide attempt called a lockout).

rolleyes.gif Lot's of kids do well only to get to the NHL and start tanking. It's a different world and MANY never make the adjustment!! It's hard to know who will and who won't.

"After participating in the Los Angeles Kings Development Camp this week in El Segundo, California, Sidney Crosby slipped in the shower and pulled a hamstring. He will be out indefinitely. 'Damn! I can't believe it,' said a disgusted Kings' GM Dave Taylor, 'He wears the purple and white for a couple of hours and injures himself. This guy has the potential to be the next Great One, but now he may just be Deadmarsh's successor.'" (BS News July 22, 2004 -- 10:50 p.m. EDT)

I think it's a little too early to be calling that kid the next "Great One". He is still so young and so much can happen. He may be great now, but how will he be in a few years? Will all the pressure of being called the next Gretzky become too much of a distraction for him? We don't know. As I said, it's too early to tell.

LOS ANGELES Last week, Sidney Crosby was the first overall pick by the Toronto Toros in the new World Hockey Association, and the Canadian Hockey League's Player of the Year celebrated by going to Los Angeles.

He didn't go to Venice Beach, Disneyland, or the Viper Room, but went 'straight to work' participating in the Los Angeles Kings Development Camp this week in El Segundo, California.

"You have to go out there and compete and show that you're better every day," Crosby told TSN. "It's not my tryout for the Kings, but it's to show people watching that I can compete with guys who are at this level."

Crosby looked like a natural fit at camp, and turned a few heads including that of Kings' GM Dave Taylor.

"He's obviously a great player," Taylor told TSN. "He doesn't look out of place here, considering the players (at camp) are three, four, five years older than he is. It seems he has always played above his age and against older players."

Crosby, 16, is eligible for 2005 NHL Entry Draft and is expected to be the top selection. He appeared in 59 games this past season for the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and recorded a league-leading 135 points.

He also became the first player to win the CHL Player of the Year, the Top Scorer and Top Rookie honors all in the same year. The QMJHL named him the Offensive Player of the Year, Offensive Rookie of the Year and Personality of the Year, as well as awarding to Crosby the Jean Beliveau Trophy as league scoring leader.

Whatever the case this kid Crosby seems to have all the tools to be a GREAT ONE...now wouldn't it be ironic if he ended up in a Ducks uniform....then Taylor can really see what the kid can do against his team.... biggrin.gif biggrin.gifx: :bbn: towel.gif yes.gif yes.gif :tu: :jason:

I dont realy know about Crosby, as I haven't seen him play, but from what you guy's say he's good. But I dont think that he will over-take Gretzky cause of the game, it's becoming more difficult to put up the score hmm.gif

biggrin.gifx: I have to agree that the game is more difficult to put up those big numbers...too many quality goalies out there....makes it tougher..but if the kid can score in a close ballpark figure to what the BEST have done, it would be fair to say that he could be in the caliber or the company of those elite players...that is if he can put up the numbers. So much pressure at this early in his career...he must be pretty good. :tu: towel.gif :bbn: :jason:

O yeah if he can handle the pressure I'm sure from what people have said he can he big, it's just I think it's going to be impossible to catch Gretzky, even with the league making pads smaller
