Not sure if anyone has posted this or not, but what a terrible idea.

Derek Douchegaard is a shame to hockey.

QUOTE
Wanna score a great deal? For a cool $40 bucks, you get a t-shirt and the chance to watch your kid learn the ropes from NHL enforcer Derek Boogaard.

"Hockey fights could last 30 seconds, max," Boogaard told Rachel Blount of the Startribune.com. "It's just like anything. If you don't like it, don't go and don't watch it."

I'm surprised the league hasn't had anything to say about this...isn't it "tarnishing the image of the New NHL"or something? rolleyes.gif

other highlights include:

'Sticking your knee out 101'
'missing your target 210'
'starting a 20 on 20 brawl during warm ups 101'
'how to cower before the almighty parros when there are no refs to save you 110'

but really we all know the highlight is going to be: 'How to take 30 seconds to lumber over the boards when your shift ends 303'

I concur with this post except for the part where Boogard cowers before Parros. Come on. Let's be real.

i'm not making it up

Game 5 Pregame skate

Booger skated across the red line, bumping pronger...

a full team on team brawl started... Parros punched Booger twice in the face...did booger fight him?
nope, he skated back into the crowd of his team... he cowered.

not a joke, not a fantasy, it happened.

For goodness sake, who let the caveman out. Boogaard should be suspended for this idea. It's a bad influence, almost as bad as him, and I can only hope someone will sue him if the unfortunate but likely event of a child getting hurt occurs because of this.

Derek Boogard is a disgrace to hockey he should be suspended for this.

As much as I hate Boogard I have little problem with this so long as either He or someone else is able to explain to the people attending the camp why fighting exists in hockey to begin with. Unfortunately I don't think he is capable, because the reason HOckey needs enforcers is because of cheap bastards like Boogard to begin with.

The NHL really should take action, in any other league he would be suspended for something like that.

But the Boogaards take umbrage with the disapproval. Their intent, Derek said, is not to create teenage bruisers.

"A lot of times when people don't understand something, they don't like it," he said. "We're not teaching kids how to fight and how to hurt people. We're teaching kids how to protect themselves so they don't get hurt on the ice. I don't want what happened to me to happen to them."

QUOTE
The Boogaard camp seems particularly disingenuous. He insists he is not urging his 12- to 18-year-old students to fight; rather, he is teaching them how to protect themselves. That hardly squares with the fake blood on the T-shirts, the multiple video replays of Boogaard crushing Todd Fedoruk's cheekbone and the instruction on how to throw a punch.

QUOTE
A controversial summer hockey camp that teaches youth how to scrap on skates is attracting censure from critics who fear the youngsters are being groomed for hockey mayhem.

But organizers defend the fight camp, saying it teaches players to protect themselves.

...
A Hockey Canada spokesman calls the program unnecessary.

"I think our message is pretty clear. It's not something that we're happy with and not something that we condone," said Glen McCurdie.

...
"If they're there teaching kids at the ages of 12, 13, 14 to defend themselves, that's fine," said Wayne Gretzky. "I took boxing classes when I was 10. It didn't pay off for me."
