5 yrs at 21.5 million
I really don't think Penner is worth that much. He was a pivotal player in the playoffs but over 4 million a year..........wow

The Edmonton Oilers are back at it again, tendering a five year, $21.5 million offer sheet to Anaheim Ducks Group II restricted free agent Dustin Penner.
The Ducks will have the right to match Edmonton's offer for Penner.
The Oilers will not comment on offer until after Anaheim's decision, as they did with Vanek and Buffalo.
Oilers general manager Kevin Lowe signed Buffalo Sabres forward Thomas Vanek to a seven-year, $50 million offer sheet in early July. The Sabres matched the offer to retain Vanek.
Penner played in all 82 last season, his first full season in the NHL. He put up 29 goals and 16 assists for 45 points.
The compensation scale is $773,442 or below, none; $773,442-$1,171,882, third-round pick; $1,171,882-$2,343,765, second-round pick; $2,343,765-$3,515,647, first- and third-round picks; $3,515,647-$4,687,530, first-, second- and third-round picks; $4,687,530-$5,859,412, two first-, one second- and one third-round pick; $5,859,412-plus, four first-round picks.

Burkie, please match it!!!!
Is it worth it though? Or would you rather have a possible top ten pick in the first 3 rounds.
No way Penner is worth this much. He'd be our highest paid forward! And we would be screwed next year with Penner and Perry!
If Penner leaving means Selanne and Scotty will/can come back then.... Bye Bye Penner!!

- Let Penner walk and get a 1st,2nd and 3rd round pick for him and not have any cap hit from the transaction.
- Sign and trade Penner. Take the 4 million and trade it to another team for another young player that may not play on the Ducks this season but will be a impact in the near future.
- Sign and keep Penner. I think this is the worst idea out of the 3 so far. Reason being if we resign Penner for 4 million a season this means Perry and Getzlaf will both ask for that if not more and we cant afford all three therefore losing at least one of the 3. So if you let him walk now we can use that money to resign Perry and Getzlaf for around 3 million mark or so.
And i believe this all could not happen if Penner doesnt sign the offer and takes less to stay in Anaheim.

Much as I like Penner.....I don't know if it makes sense to match it.
Look at it this way: Suddenly, Bobby Ryan is cheap. And unless I'm mis-informed (which is quite possible), Ryan is the same type of player that Penner is.
A lot may depend on where Scotty and Teemu are in their decision....and hopefully, Burke knows more than we do.

If you sign Penner to a 4 million deal, you may not be able to trade him...
Does anyone know the time frame here? When do we have to decide if we match or not?

I believe its 48 hours.
And i do believe we could trade him. Theres at least 3-4 teams out there that would take a franchise player for 4 million a year whos young and not in his prime yet. Nashville, Edmonton, the queens, and teams like St Louis or Chicago.
