The Colorado Avalanche has signed left wing Alex Tanguay to a one-year contract.
''Alex played very well for us last season and we expect him to continue to be one of the top young players in the game,'' said Colorado Avalanche president and general manager Pierre Lacroix. ''Despite being injured in March when at that time he was leading our Club in scoring, he still finished the season with career numbers and was one of the top scorers in the National Hockey League.''
The 24-year-old Tanguay was selected 12th overall in the 1998 Entry Draft, one of four picks the Avalanche had in the first round that year. In 69 games last season, he tallied 25 goals and a career-high 54 assists and led the team with a +30 rating. His 79 points were second on the Avalanche, behind only Joe Sakic (87 points).
Tanguay finished last season tied for fifth in the NHL for plus/minus and was ninth overall in scoring.
Selected to play in his first NHL All-Star Game this past February, Tanguay netted his 100th career NHL goal on January 21 at Florida, where he recorded his second career hat trick, and registered his 200th assist and 300th point six nights later against Edmonton.

Good sign by the Avs,but I don't know why he only gets an one-year-contract.

It's all about the CBA right now...I'm sure when an agreement is made and all the teams know what they can spend...the deals will be better and for longer. :tu:

I believe Alex has proven himself and he deserves a longer-term contract but I'm sure after this season he will get a good long-term contract. If not the Ducks should offer him one....

The Colorado Avalanche left wing on Friday signed a one-year, $4.25 million contract - a hefty increase from the $1.5 million he made last season.

I would prefer Hejduk over Tanquay.
I think he's a better player and would skate well with Fedorov and Sykora.

Tanguay's a great player and the Av's made a good decision to sign him again; I doubt that they'll let him go even if they signed to an one year contract...or I wouldn't let him go after all the good he has done for the Av's.

Good sign by the Avs, not sure it will mean much (considering there may not be hockey next season), but a good sign anyway.

Veca, yes I am! Great news! I have been out of touch on the weekends, computer-wise. I nearly passed today at the doctor's office, silly me. Maybe I should just stay away from there, and read all of the fun stuff here. hehehehehe
