Cheating or gaining an edge? Here are some elements that were once part of the NHL culture, but have been more or less legislated out of existence:

The illegal stick
Head games
Time tactic
Facing off
Fights
Foot in the crease

hey atleast it isnt steriods. also teemu got caught with an illegal stick this year.i kind of like the rule for it to... i believe if you use one the opposing team has to challage it and if it is illegal its a 2min min. if it isnt illegal than the opposing team takes a two min penality. kind of worth it if you can make some crazy stuff happen to the puck. i think it was against the sharks when teemu got caught and it was at a crucial part of the game and put them on a power play with like 3 mins left in the game. teemu said it was due to poor ice conditions.

Didn't want to start an entirely new thread for this "gem" of a decision ... rolleyes.gif

Teams have been granted permission by the league to relocate the two goal judges' positions, opening up some prime seat locations in the loge.

But the displaced judges won't be out of work. Most of them will move, plungers in hand, to the press box. If that takes them too far from the action, they'll be positioned elsewhere in the building, perhaps at the Zamboni entrance. Otherwise, the job will fall to referees and replays, and sometimes the scrutiny of the Toronto-based "war room" that pipes in telecasts of the games.

These goal judges are supposed to be able to see goals from the Zamboni entrance??? blink.gif Yeah right! They're gonna need massive cheat sheets! At the distance of the opposite end goal and the angle of the near goal, those goal judges are just signaling from the crowd's, players', and ref's reactions. I had noticed that they weren't in their usual goal end glass cases for the SCFs at the Ponda, and was wondering where they had perched themselves.

Ah, leave it to the NHL, or do I say Buttman, to futher screw up the game. mad.gif
I'm sure the couple of seats the goal judges take up matter little to the overall attendance. dry.gif

Goal Judge Doug Ingraham sits in the rafters way above the action to call goals that are scored during game two of the NHL Anaheim Ducks 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild during the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. The building has sold the goal judge seats behind both nets and put the judges up above all of the fans away from the action to call the goal scored by pressing a button on the hand held device.

Here it is...

So why does ESPN show a picture of Jiggy by their "cheating" must read story? mad.gif J.S. is not mentioned in the article (and when has he ever been cited by the NHL for using illegal equipment?) and the article only touches on goal tending equipment. This is really irresponsible journalism by ESPN. crazy.gif

Some arenas set their overhead goal cameras back so that they don't actually view the puck as it goes over the line. Then their goalies put their water bottles along the front of the net to block some of the view of the line. When a review is needed there is no clear view of the goal line. I would call that advantageous cheating.

Because they seem to have a spork shoved so far up their arses they can't seem to realize that Jiggy didn't do anything illegal dry.gif
