Chelios a bad boy

July 27, 2004

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios was kicked out of a popular restaurant Saturday.

The paper said Chelios was escorted out of FIX after a plate-smashing binge while dining with Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer, tennis star Jennifer Capriati, actors Cuba Gooding Jr. and Alan Thicke and NHL players Sergei Fedorov, Luc Robitaille and Marty McSorley.

A FIX publicist said Chelios "explained to management that it was OK because he was Greek, but it didn't fly." Chelios was referring to a Greek tradition of plate breaking.

After cooler heads prevailed, Chelios was allowed to rejoin his pals, who were in town for Bruckheimer's annual Bad Boys of Hockey weekend outing.

But just because your family goes to the same church as he and his family still doesn't make him your real uncle. biggrin.gif

No problemo. wink.gif

However, in keeping with the topic, I find it a bit hard to believe that Fedorov and "Lucky" Luc are considered "bad boys of hockey." I don't see either one of them as "bad boys."

Yeah, what is this "Bad Boys of Hockey" thing anyway -- a summer tournament? Or a golf tournament? Or an excuse to go to Vegas? I've never heard of it...

I wonder if Luc's wife started to sing and it was more then Chelios could handle. innocent.gif

OK, seriously , everyone here knows in what high esteem I hold Chris Chelios, (NOT!) but I have also known lots of Greeks in my time, and no plate is safe around them! They do the old plate smashing thing as naturally as some people order a beer at a bowling alley. If plates do not get broken, the evening or the party is a dismal failure. Of course, this restaurant probably did not buy cheap dishes specifically for smashing, and did not appreciate the ugly precedent he may have set for the other diners. But in the spirit of cultural diversity, I gotta give Cheliosaurus a pass on this.

 This time only, I wont let it happen again!!!

Bad boys of hockey? So where does Alan Thicke fit in ? Cuba Gooding Jr?? Jennifer Caparitti(sp) ??? When were they on the ice?? I must've missed those games...

I think the guy needs to really watch some hockey and see who the BAD boys of hockey really are.... for me, its the ones that get on my nerves (hehe) Tie Domi, Andy Sutton!! I'm sure I could name more but its off season so I'm not thinking about all of them right now! smile.gif
