The Detroit News reports that the Red Wings have signed defenceman Mathieu Dandenault to a one-year contract.
By signing for $1.6 million US - less than the average NHL salary - Dandenault, a 10-year NHL veteran, could become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
General Manager Ken Holland told the paper the team has not ruled out negotiating a longer-term deal.
The 28-year-old has spent his entire career with the Red Wings, scoring 48 goals and 149 points with a +46 rating in 616 games.
