Never ever after the WW II has Team Finland on same level met with Team Estonia. There have been games Finland U18 vs. Estonia U20, Finland U20 vs. Estonia mens team, etc. From its neighbouring countries Estonia is the only one Finland has never ever after WW II faced on equal level in any age group. Tomorrow there will be a change in that. In Kerava (Finland) there is a game between Finland U18 and Estonian U18. Both have their very best rosters, Finland will travel after that game to Switzerland to participatein the tournament with Sweden, USA & Switzerland.

Numbers did not matter. The fact that the game took place was a huge victory for us! It was the first time since 1945...

Just another trip down the memory lane. Finland got its first ever victory in ice hockey over Estonia. It was in year 1937 and the score was 2:1...

Do I understand this correctly? 5-2 we can sneeze at. 13-2 we can't sneeze at. blink.gif
How much ice does Espania get during a season? As I recall, from my time in Morocco, not much. blink.gif

Congrats, mate!

Unfortunately (or fortunately smile.gif ) Latvia U20 boys woudn't meet you next year, as they beat Belarus in decisive game yesterday 3:1 in front of 9500 fans @ Arena Riga and got promoted to 2009 IIHF World U20 Championship in Canada.

________________________________________________________________________________

Belarus - Latvia 1-3 (0-0, 1-1, 0-2)

Latvia is celebrating the promotion to the 2009 IIHF World U20 Championship in Canada thanks to a 3-1 win against before undefeated Belarus.

Belarus had won every game so far while Latvia lost three points against Slovenia. But the hosts Latvia were ready to claim promotion by beating Belarus 3-1 in front of an impressive crowd of 9400 fans at the Arena Riga. Latvia got the better start and opened the score with defender Arturs Kulda's power play goal at 27:49. The Belarusians could react and Yuri Yelinseyenka equalise at 36:00 just after their opponents did not make use of a two-minute power play. The game was open for a long time, but the Latvians could gain advantage in the last period while Belarus played most time shorthanded. The noise level was increasing as former AHLer Kaspars Daugavins missed the Latvian lead with his penalty shot at 53:59. Nevertheless, 98 seconds later Latvia regained the lead thanks to Janis Straupe's goal. It was the game-winning goal and also Daugavins finally found the net by scoring an empty netter with 10 seconds remaining.

While Belarus gave the direct return to the top division away in the last game, Latvia will play at the 2009 U20 Worlds in Ottawa, Canada, after two years in Division I.

I was in Riga (as a guest of Frontier) and saw the Latvian show!!! WOW!

By the way winning rituals were exactly the same as our boys did, except our boys did not smoke the cigars... wink.gif

But game in Riga was special. My friend Eriks Miluns was the 2nd coach of team Latvia. I am very happy for him!!!
