ST. LOUIS (CP) - Chris Pronger has re-signed with the St. Louis Blues in a one-year deal worth $10 million US.
Pronger agreed to the team's one-year qualifying offer that will pay him $9.5 million with a $500,000 signing bonus.
Pronger, 29, a perennial all-star and the NHL's most valuable player four years ago, bounced back from an injury-ravaged 2002-2003 to score a career-high 14 goals last season. He'll be a key player for Canada in the World Cup of Hockey tournament when it opens Aug. 30.
The Blues declined to negotiate a long-term deal several times in the last year.
"Maybe there is something down the road that makes sense for both sides to do something long term," GM Larry Pleau told the Post-Dispatch. "We don't know.
"We don't know what's to come (with a new collective bargaining agreement). We'll just take it one step at a time and see what we can do."
it´s clear he is one of the best defenders!!
but is it right to give him 10 milion in a year??
what do you think??

It all depends on what all the BEST defenders are making...what is Lidtrom making or Niedermayer...we'll see...but $10 mil does seem a bit steep.

Well since they throw the CBA down the toilet maybe we can get the season started...if you can pay Pronger that kind of dough...there should be no holdup to the season.... :tu:

:but: When I first saw the "I agree with Veca"....I was sure DK was going to quote the part where I said I was pretty offensive myself...I see DK decided to leave well enough alone.

Pronger works very hard for his money. From the sound of it, that boy spends more time sucking up to the owner and GM then he does playing.
