In today's sportspage for the Oregonian...The Atlanta Thrashers signed Portland Winter Hawks's defenseman Braydon Coburn, the team's first-round draft choice in 2003.

The 19-year-old Coburn, the eighth overall pick, was named to the 2003-2004 WHL Western Conference All-Star team. He ranked second among Portland's defenseman with 10 goals and 20 assists in 55 games last season.

"Braydon is a high character individual who has proven he is ready for the opportunity to compete at the NHL level," general manager Waddell said Thursday.



It's always great to see a hometown player here get his shot in the NHL...I'll be hoping to see him play.....Brendan Morrow of the Stars used to play for the Winter Hawks...I love seeing these guys succeed. :tu: yes.gif biggrin.gifx: :bbn: :jason:
