MONTREAL – Canadiens GM Bob Gainey announced Friday the signing of center Radek Bonk to a three-year contract. As per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
A native of Krnov, Czechoslovakia, the 28-year-old Bonk was the Senators’ first-round selection and the 3rd overall pick in the 1994 draft. He spent the last ten seasons with the Senators, collecting 399 points (152 goals, 247 assists) in 689 games. He added 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists) in 61 playoff games. In 2003-04, Bonk registered 44 points (12 goals, 32 assists) and 66 penalty minutes in 66 games. As a 17-year-old, Bonk earned Rookie-of-the-Year honors with the Las Vegas Thunder of the International Hockey League, becoming the youngest player to ever win the award. He represented the Czech Republic in numerous international tournaments, including the 1996 World Cup, and has won a gold medal at the World Hockey Championship.
Bonk was acquired from the Los Angeles Kings on June 26 along with goaltender Cristobal Huet in return for goaltender Mathieu Garon and a third round draft pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

MONTREAL (CP) - Radek Bonk has signed a three-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens, GM Bob Gainey announced Friday.
The Czech centre, who had spent all of his previous 10 NHL seasons with Ottawa, was acquired in a trade in June.
Financial terms of the deal were not released.
"I wanted to sign for more than one year, so I'm glad we made a deal that suited both sides," Bonk said in telephone interview from the Czech Republic. "I'm excited about getting it done and coming to Montreal to play for the Canadiens."
Bonk had 152 goals and 247 assists in 689 career games with Ottawa, which drafted him third overall in 1994.
The Senators had no interest in retaining him at his 2003-2004 rate of $3.5 million US so they discarded him in June to Los Angeles for a third-round draft pick. The Kings then flipped him to Montreal with backup goalie Cristobal Huet for goalie Mathieu Garon and a third-round draft pick.
Bonk, 28, had 12 goals and 32 assists last season.
"I played in Ottawa a long time and I think a change will be good for me," he said.
The Canadiens hope the six-foot-three Bonk gives them the size at centre they were lacking in recent seasons, particularly on their top two lines.
Bonk has spent the summer working out, but he also took a week off to follow the Tour de France cycling race.
"I've always watched the race on the TV but this was the first time I saw it live," he said. "It was exciting."
Great signing :tu:
