Brett Hull is one step closer to rejoining the Dallas Stars.

The Dallas Morning News, citing two sources close to the talks, says Hull is set to agree on a one year deal worth $2.2-million with Dallas.

Hull earned $5-million last season with Detroit.

Hull's agent, Bobby Hull Jr., says the Stars are "serious about getting Brett" after speaking with general manager Doug Armstrong on Thursday. The two sides are set to meet next week to finalize details.

Hull is also said to be mulling over a two year offer from the Phoenix Coyotes worth more than $2-million a season but for now, Hull Jr. says their attention is on the Stars.

"Last week, they were simply interested. Now, they are serious about it," Hull's agent tells the newspaper. "It looks positive."

The Star-Telegram reports there is some doubt within the Stars ogranization about signing Hull. Some believe the money should be spent on trying to acquire a veteran defenseman.

Dallas has been talking with free agent Teppo Numminen about a return but the two sides are said to be apart when it comes to money.

Hull, who turns 40 next month, spent the last three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. He missed one game during that span and helped the Red Wings to the Stanley Cup in 2002.

Hull is currently third on the all-time goal scoring list in the NHL behind only Wayne Gretzky and Goride Howe.

The Stars did have trouble scoring last year, this may help them but I think Dallas is certainly not the team they were when Hull was there before.I guess for 2.2 million it's a good deal but a d-man should be 1st priority.
