SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Coach Ron Wilson was given a new multiyear contract by the San Jose Sharks on Monday.
The Sharks also re-signed assistant coaches Tim Hunter and Rob Zettler. Terms of the deals weren't immediately available.
Wilson and his staff were rewarded for leading the Sharks to the best season in franchise history. San Jose went 43-21-12-6, earning 104 points and the Pacific Division title before advancing to the Western Conference finals for the first time.
Wilson agreed to a two-year contract when he joined the club in December 2002 to replace Darryl Sutter. The Sharks missed the playoffs in Wilson's first season, but made a 31-point improvement in his first full campaign.
Wilson made previous coaching stops in Anaheim and Washington, leading the Capitals to the 1998 Stanley Cup finals. He has 374 career victories.
Wilson also will coach the United States at the World Cup of Hockey. He was behind the American bench for the 1998 Olympics and two World Championships, and he led the U.S. team to victory at the 1996 World Cup.
last season he led the sharks with a no name team into the western conference finals!!

I liked him as our coach very much. And he has done great work elsewhere too... I wish him very best of luck!
But no trophy winnings in the near future as in NHL I prefer Ducks to Sharks and in World Cup Team Finland to Team USA...

Good for Ron Wilson!!! He was a class individual here as the Coach and he should still be the Coach of the Mighty Ducks but he's not and he has succeeded in Washington and now he is doing a great job with San Jose....good for you, Ron!!!
