TSN's Ice Chips:

QUOTE
goducks1ux5.gif Samuel Pahlsson remains day to day because of an abdominal injury that will keep him out of Saturday's game at Phoenix. Pahlsson, who didn't make the trip, will miss his sixth consecutive game. Winger Brad May says he is recovering nicely from his fractured right foot and hopes to begin skating next week. - LA Times

bos.png Glen Murray, originally expected to be out a week when sidelined Dec. 22 with a hip flexor injury, skated on his own prior to practice. Claude Julien could not offer a definitive timeline on the right winger's return. Patrice Bergeron (concussion) and Andrew Alberts (headaches) remain off skates and limited to light exercise. Milan Lucic, who sustained a cut requiring six stitches when he was high-sticked by Washington's Mike Green Thursday, participated in the full practice. Aaron Ward, recovering from a fractured foot, skated in drills for about 30 minutes. - Boston Globe

car.png Defenceman Casey Borer, the Hurricanes' third-round pick in the 2004 Entry Draft at the RBC Center, made his NHL debut Friday. Borer was a minus-1 in 17:02 of ice time.

dal.png The Stars assigned winger Chris Conner to the Iowa Stars on Friday. Sergei Zubov practiced Friday and will make a decision on his hand before the game. - Fort Worth Star-Telegram

det.png Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom hopes to return to the lineup Sunday against the Blackhawks after missing the past six games with a right knee injury. "That's the plan right now," Holmstrom said of his intention to play Sunday in Chicago. The Wings play in Dallas Saturday, but Holmstrom won't be ready. "We'll see how it feels. I'll skate again tomorrow and hopefully I'll be able to play (Sunday)," he said. Teammates are aware of his intensity and desire to return. Dominik Hasek gets the call in goal against Dallas. - Detroit News

flo.png Forward Tanner Glass was sent back to the minors Friday morning, a day after being replaced in the lineup by Anthony Stewart. Glass, 23, played in 16 games with the Panthers this season. He made his NHL debut Nov. 12. Stewart, Gregory Campbell and Kamil Kreps made up Florida's fourth line Thursday and are expected to play together again Saturday against the Penguins. - Palm Beach Post

min.png Mikko Koivu had an hour-long practice Firday, his first with teammates since breaking his leg Nov. 16. "Almost seven weeks. It was a special feeling," said Koivu, who has missed 21 games. The Wild isn't targeting a return date yet, but Thursday in Detroit seems a possibility. That would give Koivu four full practices and three morning skates. - Pioneer Press

nsh.png Forwards Martin Gelinas and Martin Erat are questionable gainst Minnesota, while defenceman Shea Weber will not play. Weber, who's missed the past six games, may test his leg injury. But Trotz said Weber won't play and is doubtful for the upcoming road trip to Anaheim and Los Angeles. Erat missed practice with back spasms that bothered him toward the end of Thursday's 5-2 win over Edmonton. Gelinas hurt his ankle in that game. Ville Koistinen has already earned a spot on the first power-play unit. He seems to mesh well with Marek Zidlicky, who's posted six points in the last six games - most while working alongside Koistinen. - Tennessean

nyi.png Radek Martinek did not practice Friday but will travel with the team. Ted Nolan said he hopes Martinek will be able to return by the middle of the Isles' trip. Aaron Johnson, who has been out since November with a sprained knee, also will make the trip. Nolan hasn't ruled out a conditioning trip to Bridgeport for Johnson but said he could play next week. - New York Newsday

nyr.png Brendan Shanahan said he expects to play against the Oilers. Shanahan did not practice Friday in order to undergo treatment on the muscle spasms in his neck that kept him out of Thursday's 3-0 loss in Vancouver. - Daily News

phi.png Jim Dowd's NHL career may be over. The Flyers forward cleared waivers and is not likely to accept a demotion to the minors. Dowd remains with the Flyers but was scratched from last night's game against his former club. The Flyers have 30 days before he must be put on waivers again. "I'm not bitter about anything," Dowd said. "We'll see what happens." - Star-Ledger

pitt.png Maxime Talbot returned to the ice Friday for his first full-scale practice since exacerbating a previous high-ankle sprain on Dec. 8 in Vancouver. Although that may have been a good sign, there is little chance he will make his return to the lineup against the visiting Florida Panthers. - Tribune Review

stl.gif Defencemen Barrett Jackman and Steve Wagner both took part in the Blues' practice Friday, and Murray indicated both would be capable of playing Saturday night. - St Louis Post Dispatch

tml.png Andrew Raycroft will start in goal for the Leafs on Saturday night against the Flyers, while centre Kyle Wellwood will also be back in the lineup.

van.png After riding the bike for two days, Mattius Ohlund did not come to the rink at all Friday. Head coach Alain Vigneault says he is undergoing further testing and getting a second opinion (on an apparent consussion). Vigneault says his progress has been limited and has he has only had a couple of symptom free days throught the entire process.
Aaron Miller did not practice Friday. He had a maintainance day because of a strained hip flexor. He might take part in the Super Skills day Saturdayw, if not he will practice on Monday and play Tuesday versus the Islanders.
Jeff Cowan took part in his first practice Friday since separating his shoulder. He is about a week away from returning to the lineup.
Mason Raymond finished Thursday's game on the top line with the Sedin twins and remained there in practice Friday. Naslund has been moved to the 2nd line, he has looked very ordinary in four of Vancouver's last five games. - TSN
