Nashville, Tenn. - Nashville Predators Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms with goaltender Tomas Vokoun.
In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Vokoun, 27, posted a 34-29-10 record with a 2.53 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage in 73 games last season, helping guide the Predators to their first-ever playoff berth. The 6'0", 195 lbs Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic native also appeared in his first career NHL All-Star game, established a franchise record in wins and tied for second in the NHL in games played.
"Tomas was a major part of this teams success last season and we are very pleased to sign him to a long-term deal," said Poile. "Since taking over as our No. 1 goaltender, Tomas has become one of the best young goaltenders in the NHL and he continues to improve each season."
Vokoun posted a 2.02 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage, including one shutout in Nashvilles inaugural playoff series vs. Detroit in 2004. He is the Predators all-time leader among goaltenders in games played, wins and shutouts. He registered career highs in games played and wins in 2003-04 and tied a career high with three shutouts. Vokoun has appeared in 142 of Nashvilles 164 games over the past two seasons, posting a 59-60-21 record.
He played for the Czech Republic at the 2003 World Championships, registering a 4-1-1 record and a 2.16 goals-against average and has also been named to the Czech Republics 2004 World Cup team. Vokoun, one of three Predators (along with Scott Walker and Greg Johnson) remaining from the 1998 NHL Expansion Draft, was originally Montreals 11th selection, 226th overall (ninth round), in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.

He is really good one. Can win games by himself! And annoying for forwards is that he is left handed (catches right)...
He is actually only Czech goalie I like!
