TSN's Ice Chips:
Samuel Pahlsson missed his eighth consecutive game Wednesday. The veteran center has been able to participate in practice but he isn't ready to go back up against the game's top forwards. Pahlsson and left wing Brad May could be back in the Ducks lineup Sunday, Randy Carlyle said. Ducks right wing George Parros left early in the second period with a bruised right knee, and is day-to-day. - LA Times
Aaron Ward returned to the Bruins' lineup after missing eight games with a broken foot. Glen Murray (hip flexor strain) missed his ninth straight game last night. Murray made it through most of Monday's practice, but hasn't skated with the team since. ''It's indefinite for him,'' Claude Julien said . - Boston Globe
Forward David Moss skated with the team for the first time on Friday as he recovers from a high ankle sprain. Defenceman Adrian Aucoin skated but is not likely to play as he will not be rushed back with a healthy Rhett Warrener in the lineup. - TSN
Jonathan Toews is targeting a return from his sprained left knee after the All-Star Break. Toews injured his knee Jan. 1 in Los Angeles. His presence has been missed tremendously during the Hawks' current seven-game losing skid. Coach Denis Savard said Niklolai Khabibulin would start in goal tonight against the Minnesota Wild at the United Center and Patrick Lalime Sunday in Nashville. Defenseman Brent Sopel should return from a broken finger suffered Dec. 26.
Nikolai Zherdev, who sat out practice yesterday, said he will play in the rematch tonight despite suffering a charley horse in his right quadriceps. Ken Hitchcock he hopes to have Zherdev back in the lineup tonight but said that decision won't be made until after the morning skate.
Hitchcock expects Blue Jackets forward Fredrik Modin (back spasms) to return to practice today. Dr. Robert Watkins found no structural damage to Modin's back upon reviewing his CT scan. Modin hasn't played in a game since Nov. 1. - Columbus Dispatch
Goaltender Steve Mason was returned to the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League on Friday.
Centre Mikko Koivu was activated from injured reserve on Friday and centre Dominic Moore was claimed off waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs. - Press Release
Forward Corey Locke has been assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.
Predators forward Jordin Tootoo is expected to be out of the lineup for one to three weeks after suffering a hip flexor injury in Monday's loss at Anaheim. Jed Ortmeyer replaced Tootoo in the lineup on Tuesday. Defenseman Shea Weber skated on his own for the fourth straight day, and may rejoin team practices early next week. Weber has missed nine straight games with a leg injury. - Tennessean
Forward Brendan Shanahan left Thursday's game late in the third period, but the Rangers had no news about his injury after the game. He recently sustained a knee injury, but had not previously missed a game because of it. - New York Times
Forward Patrick Eaves is skating but head coach John Paddock said he won't play Saturday and is now doubtful for Sunday's meeting with the Islanders. - TSN
Simon Gagne returned after missing 26 straight games while recovering from a concussion. He celebrated by scoring a third-period goal. Gagne played mostly on Danny Briere's line with R.J. Umberger. Defenseman Jason Smith (bruised right shin) returned to the lineup, while Scottie Upshall (ankle sprain) was a late scratch. - Philadelphia Inquirer
Sharks defenseman Kyle McLaren played against Vancouver on Thursday after missing three practices this week to rest his left knee. Defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh and left wing Rob Davison were healthy scratches. - Mercury News
Captain Tim Taylor said he is going home to Stratford, Ontario, on Jan. 21 to skate through the end of the month before deciding if he can practice with the team. Taylor, recovering from September's right hip surgery, hopes to play but has not skated and said his rehab schedule prohibits contact until March 6. Defenseman Dan Boyle, who has played only four games because of two wrist tendon surgeries, took shots for the first time at the morning skate. There still is no announced timetable for his return - St. Petersburg Times
Centre Dominic Moore was claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Wild on Friday. - Press Release
Curtis Sandford will start in goal tonight and Kris Beech will be in the lineup. - TSN
Defenceman Nathan McIver was recalled from Manitoba of the American Hockey League on Friday. Winger Jason Jaffray was sent down to Manitoba. - Press Release
