Florida, Buffalo, Nashville, and St. Louis all need to win in regulation. Tampa Bay needs to lose for tanking purposes (I'd prefer they get the no. 1 draft pick if necessary rather than the Queens).

TSN's Ice Chips:

QUOTE
bos.png Phil Kessel suffered a stinger in Tuesday's second period when he collided with defenseman Francis Bouillon, causing his right arm to go numb. But Kessel, who returned to the game, made it through practice without limitations and will be ready to play Thursday.
Glen Murray, who practiced Monday at the Bell Centre, didn't skate Wednesday. Head coach Claude Julien said Murray (hip flexor strain) had a slight setback. Neither Murray nor P.J. Axelsson (broken right foot) will be available Friday. - Boston Globe

cal.png The Flames have assigned forward Eric Nystrom to the American Hockey League. - TSN

car.png When the Carolina Hurricanes picked up Sergei Samsonov off re-entry waivers, they picked up a struggling player they thought could help out. So far, Samsonov is proving them right. After compiling just four points in 23 games for the Chicago Blackhawks earlier this season, Samsonov has nearly doubled that point total with the Canes. He has seven points in seven games and has scored his first two goals of the season. Samsonov and the Hurricanes had their last practice before the All-Star break on Wednesday at the RecZone. The Canes are off until Monday and host the New York Rangers on Tuesday. - News Observer

chi.png Head coach Denis Savard said the team is being extra cautious with rookie Jonathan Toews. "He's young and probably heals a lot quicker than older players, but he's one of the players key to our franchise," Savard said. "We want to make the playoffs and take a run at this, but at the same time we have to take care of the player first." Toews is likely three weeks away from returning from a sprained knee suffered Jan. 1.
The worst part of missing games for Martin Lapointe is the nature of his injury - a bruised kidney. "I wish I had a broken finger or a bad knee or something," said Lapointe, who has missed the Blackhawks' last four games. "Those are things you can battle through, maybe, but with my situation you can't take any chances. You have to wait it out." - Chicago Tribune
Nikolai Khabibulin returns in goal for the Hawks after backup Patrick Lalime started the last five games, winning the first four. The streak ended with a 3-2 loss Tuesday at San Jose that capped the Hawks' 2-1 road trip. - Chicago Sun Times

col.png Jose Theodore will start for the 10th consecutive game in goal for the Avalanche Thursday. - Rocky Mountain News

dal.png Jussi Jokinen, who has missed the last 13 games with a knee injury, skated with the team during its 60-minute practice and said the knee felt better than he'd expected. He's scheduled to return to the lineup Thursday when the Stars host the Buffalo Sabres. - Dallas Morning News

det.png With Henrik Zetterberg (back) out of the lineup on Tuesday, Matt Ellis returned after being a healthy scratch the last six games.
Dallas Drake (right knee) sat out his fourth consecutive game and will miss Wednesday's game, too, Babcock said. - Detroit News

flo.png Right wing Jozef Stumpel practiced with the team Wednesday, but he was limited to no contact. It is possible he will return against Edmonton after sitting out seven games with a separated shoulder. Head coach Jacques Martin said he would evaluate Stumpel's status over the course of Thursday.
Ville Peltonen remained out of practice, but has skated every day this week. Martin said he's still a ways away from returning, but hopes to have him back soon after the All-Star break. - Sun Sentinel

la.png Alexander Frolov never has fully healed from the right groin injury that kept him out 11 games from November into December. "It still keeps me from doing some moves and I can feel it on some turns," he said. "Some days it's worse than others." - LA Daily News

nj.png John Madden was given the day off from practice again to give the cut on his right ankle a better chance to heal, but plans to play against the Canadiens on Thursday. He said he would have the stitches from the cut removed after Thursday's game. - Star Ledger

nyr.png Coach Tom Renney scrambled his forward lines and the top three lines all had new looks. Jaromir Jagr played with his usual centre, Scott Gomez, but the feisty Sean Avery was put in at left wing. Dubinsky centered the second line, between Brendan Shanahan and Nigel Dawes. Centre Chris Drury was put between Martin Straka and Petr Prucha. - New York Times

phi.png Marty Biron will be in goal Thursday against Pittsburgh. - Philadelphia Inquirer

pho.png Daniel Carcillo, sidelined almost five weeks because of a knee injury, has been practicing with the team this week, and he will start a conditioning assignment with the San Antonio Rampage on Thursday. - Arizona Republic

tmp.png Defenceman Dan Boyle, who has had two wrist surgeries since the start of the season, could be back before the All-Star break. - Tampa Tribune

mon.png Defenceman Patrice Brisebois had an MRI on his left foot Monday where doctors found two broken bones. Brisebois says he'll suck up the pain so he can play. He could rest the foot but then he'd lose his game-shape which is something he'd rather avoid. - TSN

ott.png Martin Gerber is expected to get the start Thursday. Daniel Alfredsson did not practice in order to get some rest. - TSN

tml.png Vesa Toskala will start in goal for the Leafs in Washington. Forward Darcy Tucker will start on second line in place of Alexei Ponikarovsky, but coach Paul Maurice expects to rotate players through the game. - TSN

van.png The Canucks on Thursday assigned left wing Jason Jaffray and defenceman Nathan McIver to Manitoba of the American Hockey League. Jaffray recorded two goals and three assists in 14 games with Vancouver this season. McIver, who is scoreless in three games with Vancouver this season, recorded two goals and four points with 65 penalty minutes in 28 games with the Moose. - TSN

Yeah. Some Yotes fans say that getting Bryz is payback for us getting Selanne all those years ago, but at least they got something in return for Teemu whereas we got nothing. I already see some chunks missing from the Ducks' behinds. crazy.gif
