For those that don't know, here are the lyrics to the song the Ducks have been using as their intro since December....

Mute Math, 'Typical'

QUOTE
Come on,
can't I dream for one day

There's nothing
that can't be done

But how long
should it take somebody

Before
they can be someone

Cause I
know there's got to be another level

Somewhere
closer to the other side

And I'm
feeling like it's now or never

Can I
break the spell of the typical

I've lived
through my share of misfortune

And I've
worked in the blazing sun

But how long
should it take somebody

Before
they can be someone

Cause I
know there's got to be another level

Somewhere
closer to the other side

And I'm
feeling like it's now or never

Can I
break the spell of the typical, the typical, the typical...

I'm the typical

I'm the typical

Can I break the spell of the typical

Because
it's dragging me down

I'd like
to know about when

When does
it all turn around

I'm just the typical

I'm just the typical

I'm just the typical

I'm just the typical

I'm just the typical

I'm just the typical

some of you may not place as big an importance as i do on music... (for instance i try to listen to the same 5 song playlist before every game... BTW, the Ducks are 28-4-2 when i listen to it uninterrupted, 5-19-5 when i don't...)

Anyway... after reading these lyrics today, i was shocked... yes it was entirely appropriate in early december when it was chosen... but now? with Scotty? and Teemu!? I think it's time to change it.... maybe Knights of Cydonia by Muse... or something.

What do you think... and if you think it should be changed... what would you suggest?

Keep it. It says to me that someone is striving not to be typical. I like that. That's the attitude that you need. Even if you feel typical most of the time, strive not to be.

i just don't see how the ducks are typical... and this song, especially the end, seems to reinforce the idea that they are. It just seems really pessimistic, like no matter what you do, you're just typical

I think an uplifting, "now is the time to fight or die" song would be better, Knights of Cydonia by Muse is the epitome of this:

QUOTE
Come ride with me
Through the veins of history
I'll show you how god
Falls asleep on the job

And how can we win
When fools can be kings
Don't waste your time
Or time will waste you

No one's gonna take me alive
The time has come to make things right
You and I must fight for our rights
You and I must fight to survive

What's the problem with those lyrics? Why would those "shock" you? It's not like they're playing "Wrong Way" by Sublime (lyrics)

The way the Ducks have been coming out of the gate this entire season, I say keep changing the intro song until we come across one that does the trick!

So you'd prefer the Ducks play a song which claims that God has fallen asleep on the job as a way to fire themselves and their fans up? hmm.gif

um... kind of a good point... if it wasn't for 2003... the ducks had a rough first few years and a few heart breaks.... times when it didn't seem God was on their side. you are focusing on the start of the song which simply is history, it lays the ground work for why we must fight now.

"Knights..." is about overcoming adversity... even when it doesn't seem God is one your side, when things get truly hard... rising above and fighting.... besides, listen to it... it has a fist pounding, driving beat that suits the ducks a lot more than Mute Math's style.

it also says
No one's gonna take me alive - that's the fighting spirit we all love and admire

The time has come to make things right - we should take the pacific... no doubt about it.

You and I must fight for our rights - the cup is ours... period.

You and I must fight to survive - that is just plain self explanitory.

'Typical', is about being stuck in mediocrity and hoping for more... not achieving it, just wondering if it will ever happen.

Well, you can't get more positive and motivational than with Bryan Adams and

Were gonna win

Dont wanna be a loser - gonna win
Cuz winnin really is the only thing
Get out of the way were comin in
If ya wanna fight just step inside the ring
Does anybody wanna take a swing?
Its gotta be all or nothing
Oh were gonna be the champions
Ya were goin all the way - were gonna win win

Were gonna win
Forget about a draw - were gonna score
And then were gonna get a few more
Maybe another one just to be sure
Well make ya look just like an amateur
Until the final whistle its a war
And then were gonna pick ya off the floor
We wanna hear the crowd really roar
Ya - were comin in were gonna win win

Were gonna win - we wanna win
Cuz number one is everything
Were gonna win - we wanna win
Were gonna be the champions
Were gonna win

i'm not sure i know the song, but considering the performer i'm going to guess it doesn't have the 'edge' I would expect in a Ducks theme...

Needs to be more optomistic in my opinion. I don't have a particular song that leaps into my head at the moment however,

I do recommend a particular song to play as the Kings come onto the ice in Anaheim..... "Send in the clowns".

i guess, i just hate the pessimism in 'Typical' and the idea that "we hope for more", but no indication of actually doing anything about it.

cause i'd even take Infra-Red by Placebo:
(Which i plan to use soon to make a tribute video of Ducks fights and big hits)

QUOTE
One last thing before I shuffle off the planet
I will be the one to make you crawl
so I came down to wish you an unhappy birthday
someone call the ambulance there’s gonna be an accident

I’m coming up on infra-red,
there is no running that can hide you
cause I can see in the dark
I’m coming up on infra-red,
forget your running, I will find you

One more thing before we start the final face off
I will be the one to watch you fall
so I came down to crash and burn your beggars banquet
someone call the ambulance there’s gonna be an accident

I’m coming up on infra-red,
there is no running that can hide you
cause I can see in the dark
I’m coming up on infra-red,
forget your running, I will find you
(I will find you!)

-distorted singing-
someone call the ambulance there’s gonna be an accident
I’m coming up on infra-red,
there is no running that can hide you
cause I can see in the dark

and it's just angry... really no overcoming... just seek and destroy. LOL

Not an edge at all just a full on hockey riot of screaming glee! They used it alot in the 2002-03 SC warm ups.

Honestly, the way the crowds at the Pond sound on TV sometimes they should play "Wake Up" by Rage Against the Machine.

Actually, we did pretty darned good with the song that I chose my screen name from.

Bring back Saliva to start the game!

Ladies and gentlemen please
Would you bring your attention to me?
For a feast for your eyes to see
An explosion of catastrophe

Like nothing you’ve ever seen before
Watch closely as I open this door
Your jaws will be on the floor
After this you’ll be begging for more

Welcome to the show
Please come inside
Ladies and gentlemen

woa
Do you want it?
woa
Do you need it?
woa
Let me hear it
Ladies and gentlemen

Boom
Do you want it?
Boom
Do you need it?
Boom
Let me hear it
Ladies and gentlemen

Ladies and gentlemen good evening
You’ve seen that seeing is believing
Your ears and your eyes will be bleeding
Please check to see if you’re still breathing

Hold tight cause the show is not over
If you will please move in closer
You're about to be bowled over
By the wonders you’re about to behold here

I've never been big on listening to the lyrics. I tend to like the music end of things, so I tend to not pay attention. As long as it isn't depressing or slow, I think the intro is fine. Then again, I'm not too picky about that stuff.

great song... they still use it for the 3rd period intro... but i would love it if they used it to start the game again.

like i said, i just looked it up today and was a bit surprised... especially cause the video screens only highlight the optimistic sounding lyrics.

"Ladies And Gentlemen" is the big exception... a bunch of us in 418 always sing along when the last verse is played to lead off the 3rd... the lyrics are perfect.

My sentiments exactly thumbsup.gif

I would have that song cranked up on our 88 mile commute to the game all last year as I bashed through traffic on the 5. It really set the tone for the drive and the game... (I actually drove everybody nuts with it, especially my kids)

That version they use to start the 3rd is so watered down it just doesn't do any justice. It's better than nothing I suppose, but I think we need the full version with fresh video to rock the Ponda and set the tone to start the game.

I realize that variety is needed to keep things fresh, but use new video to achieve that.

I'm not really big on lyrics either, more the melody. But the way they Ducks use their songs in intros and such, I think they're more relevant in that case.

The ultimate pump up song will always be "New Noise" by Refused, though. The Ducks should use that song - it's much better than anything they use now.

Well I remember several years ago they played Motorhead's "Ace of Spades" before a couple of games. I love that song but the line "you win some, lose some, it's all the same to me" is not very encouraging for a hockey game intro.

May I add another vote for Ladies and Gentlemen. I know I don't get to hear the opening songs much, but this is the one I always associate with the Ducks. It was the one I saw when I was there, it was the one from the Stanley Cup. I just love how the players mouth the words along with the music.
